Completing the picture - part two
I'm not despairing though. Since beginning dedicated internet more than ten years ago, I have seen many mysteries clear up.  They make way for other mysteries, of course, but that's the nature of family history.

Last month, John Reid mentioned an online tool named retroReveal in his valuable blog Canada's Anglo-Celtic Connections . I couldn't resist having a go, of course, especially since there are a number of mystery photos in my late father-in-law's keep-sake ch...

A long-standing mystery is solved, and as usual in family history, several new mysteries take its place.
Back in the day, I used to be thrilled and intrigued when a new item popped up on the "Recent Member  Connect Activity" list on my home page at Ancestry.co.uk.  I've been a member of Ancestry since 2005 and in the past five y...

A little over two years ago, I did a presentation to the British Isles Family History Society of Greater Ottawa entitled The Hanging Hales. This was about (among other things) an incident in 1816 that had my great-great-great-grandparents hopping mad and out for blood in the City of London. I've adapted the presentation for my blog and added details I didn't have in 2012.
This is an adaptation of a presentation I made to the British Isles Family History Society of Greater Ottawa (BIFHSGO) on February 11th, 2012.  I've made rather a lot of discoveries about the Hales in the intervening two year...

Newest blog post is an adaptation and update of a short presentation I did in June 2011 as part of "Great Moments in Genealogy", the popular semi-annual event for the British Isles Family History Association at Library and Archives Canada.  This has links and extra information that the original 15-minute time limit didn't allow.

New post: I adapt an hour-long presentation about my Welsh ancestors in Wales and Africa  to my family history society last weekend to my blog.

Yes, I have a blog. It's a family history blog entitled Not Quite Born in Britain. If your ancestors are British, you might want to take a look: http://notquiteborninbritain.blogspot.ca
Introduction
It's "Roger" as in "Jolly", sunshine, and I go by my second name.  But you can avoid confusion if you address me as "Ms. Roger" until we're better acquainted...
