New Post: Why You Don’t Need to Be Involved in Every Social Media Channel
----------------------------
I get asked a lot, “How do you find time to do it all? If I participate in every social media channel, I don’t have time to do anything else!” Exactly.

The reality is that I don’t do it all. You can’t be everywhere in social media—and you won’t be effective trying. But the good news is that if you narrow your focus you can get serious traction and build your following.

Taking a stand is essential in business, but I've met many leaders afraid to commit. Sometimes you just have to stop trying and do it.

In today's post, I share four steps anyone can follow to gain the confidence they need.

Read it here: http://mhyatt.us/1zRaJlI
4 Steps for Taking a Stand with Confidence When we think of the fear of commitment, we usually picture a guy who’s been dating a girl since forever and won’t get off the dime, right? But there’s another kind of commitment phobia we need to address. Forget about relationships. Think instead about deadlines, deliverables, benchmarks, and budgets. How willing are you to make […]

New Post: 5 Ways Reading Makes You a Better Leader

Pollsters say reading is in decline. As an author and former publishing executive, the statistics make me wince. But I’m optimistic for another reason.
Why? A readership crisis is really a leadership crisis. And crisis is just another way of saying opportunity for people who know how to respond.

New Post: What You Do Right Before Bed Determines How Productive and Focused You’ll Be Tomorrow
---------------
I talk a lot about how the right morning routine can prepare you for a productive day. The same is true for nighttime rituals. The right activities before you sleep can set you up for success the next day.
I used to have the worst time getting to sleep at night. I knew it was important for my health and productivity, but my mind raced long after the lights went out.
I woke up groggy, grumpy, and unready for the day. My energy was gone before lunch, and my performance left me unsatisfied. I just wasn’t my best self. I hope not, but maybe you can relate.

New Podcast Episode: Why Learning to Lead Means Learning to Follow
-------------
In this episode, Stu and I discuss why learning to lead means learning to follow.

If you want to be an effective leader, it’s critical that you first learn to be an effective follower. It sounds counterintuitive, but without the character and skill formation that comes from learning to follow, you’re almost guaranteed to be a lousy leader.

New Post: When You’re Just Too Tired to Make the Right Call
-----------------------------
When do you make your best decisions, at the end of a day crammed with meetings and calls? Or early in the morning after a day of rest?

My Twitter stream was filled last week with teachers and professors grading papers—and by that I mean teachers and professors complaining about grading papers. It’s hard work, and I don’t mean to slight anyone, but I feel sorry for the students whose papers were last in the stack.

In fact, it’s because grading papers is such hard work that I feel sorry for those students. Making call after call is bound to affect the quality of their teachers’ decisions. It’s true for all of us.

New Post: Why The Best Reading App Available Today Is Not What You Think

This is going to sound crazy. After all, I run an online content business. But the best reading app for comprehension, emotional engagement, and more is … paper.

Whether we go back to the ancient Egyptians or the Chinese, there’s nothing new about paper. What is new is the understanding that reading on paper is superior in many ways to reading on screens.

New Post: 3 Surprising Reasons Every Entrepreneur Needs Regular Exercise
---------------
Exercise used to be the last thing on my mind. Now it’s a regular part of my life, and I can’t imagine missing the benefits—especially as an entrepreneur.
Most adults don’t get the regular exercise they need, according to the CDC. As a high-achiever, I totally get it. Carving out time to run or strength train seems like a waste when there’s a project to complete or a product to launch, doesn’t it?

Yesterday's Post: 5 Signs a Potential Employee Will Drain Your Team of Precious Energy, Creativity, and Joy

Some gadgets come with batteries and some don’t. Same with people. And if you’re a leader, the only kind to hire are those with batteries included.

5 Signs a Potential Employee Will Drain Your Team of Precious Energy, Creativity, and Joy Some gadgets come with batteries and some don’t. If I told you it’s the same with people, what kind would you like to work with: those with or without batteries? I picked up this metaphor from a recent episode of Dan Sullivan’s 10XTalk Podcast. Dan said he basically divides everyone into one of two categories: […]
