Me and Joshua Dysart talking about the big ideas in Imperium along with his thoughts on the potential Harbinger movie.
Joshua Dysart’s Imperium, published by Valiant Comics and drawn by Doug Braithwaite, has taken comics into new territory. Beware that this interview may contain minor spoilers. Already known for hi...

Madefire just keeps building steam with the Motion Book. Good news for fans of Top Cow's The Darkness.
It looks like Madefire keeps building steam as they get set to launch Top Cow's The Darkness from Marc Silvestri. Making it’s Motion book debut today with issues 1 & 2, The Darkness will subsequently be released bi-weekly. Marc Silvestri’s popular title has a touch of evil to it that is perfectly suited for the Motion Book treatment. “The Darkness is one of the seminal books to emerge from the Image revolution of the 90s, and it’s as...

Another fantastic issue from Joshua Dysart, Clayton Henry, and Brian Reber.
Review: Harbinger #20 by Joshua Dysart, Clayton Henry, and Brian Reber I’m not much of a believer in destiny, but it’s hard to argue that Joshua Dysart was born to write Harbinger. I mean, he’s probably got a lot of other great things he has, is, or will be doing too, but his run on Harbinger to date has been nothing short of outstanding. Consider issue 20, which hit stands this week. It’s simply another masterpiece kick starting the latest ...

Todd Klein's amazing work takes my Best Comic Letterer of 2013 spot.
Best Comic Letterer of 2013  I hate to say this, but Todd Klein deserves this honor until he no longer letters comics and then maybe while after that. Every professional letterer would probably agree with me on this with the stamp he puts on every title in which he’s involved. This is a man who perfected the art of lettering before it became almost exclusively a digital thing. This isn’t a slight to all of the up and coming letterers out there,...

It's been a while since I've posted up on the blog, but comic legend Jim Steranko finally expounded and explicated on an idea I've felt at the heart of comic creation: the connection between music and comics. I have captured and edited his tweets into a linear format for easy reading. My comic book friends should really give this a read.

http://davegillette.com/post/110516060605/for-the-past-five-years-ive-been-writing-a-story
For the past five years, I’ve been writing a story that was originally intended to be made as a graphic novel about an protagonist who is guided by music in his journey to find his place in existence. It was influenced by my own life journey as well as time spent as a musician and in the music industry. As I began scripting this story, I began to feel it had found the perfect medium because the scripting process for the story felt quite natura...

Another fine story from Tim Gibson.
Review: The Reservoir by Tim Gibson Tim Gibson, the powerhouse talent behind Moth City, takes a different path by going backwards with his latest work The Reservoir: A Western in Black, White, and Blood. This is a flashback story, telling the origin  story of Governor McCaw and his daughter in a land and time well before the present day conflict of Moth City. Gibson takes a unique approach to the narrative by telling his story exclusive thr...

So yeah...fuck Coachella
And That Coachella Thing (A.K.A. Hipster Central)… The annual festival revered amongst hipsters worldwide has announced their line-up. While I’m certainly glad to see Outkast is back, I will not be one of those people torturing myself for three days as hipsters yuck it up about music they really could care less about. Once upon a time, when the music industry was still a viable institution, I went to the first Coachella when it was just a on...

No big surprise here, but boy does that suck
Disney Announces Star Wars Comic License Goes to (You Guessed It) Marvel! While it’s not shocking or surprising, but certainly disappointing, Disney officially announced that Marvel Entertainment will be taking over the comic book license for Star Wars from Dark Horse Comics. This does takes things full circle for the comic license, which was originally Marvel’s from 1977 up until Dark Horse took over in 1991. In some ways, you could look at...

My Best Comic Book Writer of 2013 went to the always amazing Joshua Dysart for his incredible work on Harbinger.
Best Comic Writer of 2013 This is another category where the difference between best and next best is microscopic. There are simply too many writers doing amazing work right now. Having said that, no one gets me out to the comic book shop with more regularity than Joshua Dysart. He’s like a word shaman that used your map for kindling and spiked your water with LSD. His approach to storytelling has forced me to rethink what a person can do with ...
