Nexus 5 Review: Got my nexus 5, I'm not impressed, which is sad because it's a good device on the whole but doesn't compete with how "wowed" I was when I got my N4 (and how impressed I am with my N4 still one year later).
Form - The short, it doesn't feel as good in the hand as my Nexus 4 does, period. The long, The N5 has very nice matte plastic feel on back. However the N5 sides curve in towards the screen on top....N4 is the opposite, sides curve in towards bottom of the device which is waaaaay more comfortable in the hand. N5 feels pointy. I also don't like the feel of the buttons, the ceramic material is very hard and sharp, so sliding your finger along to push one of them is rough......they also jiggle around a bit thus don't feel solid. N5 is very light, which is nice.
Display- its real nice, definitely beats the N4, no question. I'm an LCD fan over Amoled, but I feel like the S4 display is crisper, so I'm shocked that I actually think an Amoled screen looks better than a comparable LCD.....but its splitting hairs here, both great.
OS- stock as expected on both, which are great. I kept wishing the N5 would recognize me saying "OK Google" from any screen or when phone was off, but it doesnt ......I really would have loved to see those great moto x features in the N5.
Camera- I can sum this up easily.....is it better than N4, definitely yes.....does it compete with the good flagships, definitely no. My biggest issue is how long it takes to focus and snap the damn picture, its brutal, unless you have perfect lighting it will take 2-4 seconds to take the picture. N4 takes a worse picture but does it faster. I can't take a picture of my son if it takes 4 seconds to do it, he'll be gone....so a bad N4 pic is better than a good N5 pic of nothing lol.
Processor- im not a benchmark guy.....I'm a real world performance guy. I can fly thru the N4 just as fast as the N5, I can't see a difference, they're both awesome..... really shows you how good a dual core can be and how much the OS effects performance (you S4 users know what I mean, that thing has the Snapdragon 800 and still lags cuz of that heavy OS).
Battery-same as N4 from my experience, which puts it in the bad category in my opinion.
In conclusion, I'll be returning it. Although there are great upgrades to LTE, 32gb and 1080p, and 800 processor, none of those were my issues with the N4...... my gripes were poor battery and camera, and those again are the same shortfalls with the N5. So for me with a N4, the new N5 doesn't put me in a better position. Everyone's different though, let me know your thoughts!
