BNSF plans to close the South Street Underpass on Tuesday, September 4th from 9:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. BNSF will be doing maintenance work on the bridge deck above the roadway as part of their third track line project. A detour will be set up to direct traffic around the area.

The city's outside swimming facilities will open for the season on Saturday, May 26, 2012.

The 12th Annual Touch a Truck event will be held Wednesday, May 2, 2012 from 10-11:30 a.m. at the Lake Storey Pavilion parking lot and featuring a Boeing CH-47D Chinook Aircraft from B Company, 2-238th Illinois Army National Guard from Peoria, IL. Youth can touch and explore everything at this fun and free community event and have the opportunity to learn about a variety of vehicles first hand by seeing, touching, hearing and exploring vehicles. Discovery Depot, Knox County Farm Bureau and the Knox County Area Project will have activities.

The Sustainable Business Center and the City of Galesburg welcomed Congressman Bobby Schilling, US Representative for Illinois' 17th congressional district, at the Sustainable Business Center last Thursday, April 5, 2012 to learn about the City and the SBC efforts to grow green, high-tech businesses for the region.

An electronic newsletter was launched today by the EBI Network for entrepreneurs and businesses throughout west central Illinois. The newsletter titled "The Entrepreneurial Mindset Newsletter" is a free, monthly email publication designed to educate, engage, and empower entrepreneurs, small business owners, mid-to-large corporations, and public and private institutions.

Spring Clean Up Days in Galesburg will be held April 16-20, 2012. Two weeks each year, one week in the spring and one week in the fall, residents are encouraged to clean out attics, garages, basements and backyards getting rid of any large unwanted items. During these special weeks, most things can be placed at the curb on your regular refuse pick up day by 6 a.m. and picked up without extra charge.

The City Council, at its March 26 special meeting, approved two measures that will assist Gates in resuming its rubber hose production line by expanding its local facility by 87 employees, 71 of those employees in production and 16 as support staff. Council unanimously approved a grant application for $50,000 to go toward training new employees and a resolution that promises assistance in storing Gates equipment for a period of six months or less while the facility readies itself for the expansion. These two measures were instrumental in the successful expansion of the local Gates manufacturing facility.
