Alright Internet, I present you with the most bull** home network you'll ever see.

So when I moved I was fortunate enough to have access to Bell Gigabit fibe, but like any self respecting nerd, I didn't want to use Bell's Modem/Router/VOIP Gateway/MoCA/Wifi access point thing.

Well, after a series of unfortunate events, that led to the network configuration you see here.

In this picture we have
- Alcatel-Lucent 7342 ONT
- Bell Homehub 2000,
- 2x 5 Port gigabit switches,
- Unifi UAP-PRO AC Wifi AP
- Gigabyte Brix S (i3/8GB Ram) + USB 3 Gigabit ethernet adapter running OPNSense
- PPPOE injector,
- 27" monitor.
- multiple power supplies.

(not pictured, the Unifi Security Gateway under the monitor)

So, here's how this craziness works -
The Bell ONT bridges the fiber and ethernet network. Gigabit switch #1 connects the Homehub, OPNsense and USG to the bell network.

The Homehub connects to the ONT, establishing a connection to VLAN 36, for the IPTV service to work, it also runs IGMP Proxy and it acts as a HPNA adapter bridging the set top boxes to the internet via coax.

The USG establishes a connection to VLAN35 and sets up it's own PPPOE session. It's then connected to switch #2 which connects to a server, access point.

Then, the Opnsense box also establishes a separate PPPOE connection on VLAN35 (yep, it has a separate IP Address and everything) which right now is connected to another PC on it's other ethernet interface.

All this craziness can/will be solved once I get a new managed switch, then It'll be simply ONT > OPNSense -> Switch <- trunk port --> (VLAN35, VLAN36) <--> clients, but for now, I'll simply have a closet that'd man a grown network engineer cry.

Basically yes, though ironically I don't have a switch for it, so only one port. Time for gigabit switch #3 ?!

This is the simplest explanation

Want to know why public-transportation systems are underfunded? Because rich people don't ride the bus.

Only when the roads become so jammed that car pooling is the only answer will they consider anything remotely close to public transport

The best thing about a having a monitor arm is hanging your monitor off your desk - it frees up so much space!

A neat #javascript  trick I tried that worked,
var searchTerms = (req.body.searchTerms || "default search terms").split(' ');
console.log(searchTerms);
> ["default", "search", "terms"]

The butter chicken roti was amazing, I got medium and it was. Rey spice and flavourful. The masala fries and mango lassie were great too but was surprised that it is $30 for one person. I took off a star for the price and lacklustre atmosphere
