The Vagina Monologues

The University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo School of Education will be accepting applications for up to 25 seats in its Master of Education (M.Ed.) Fall 2017 cohort beginning March 1 and continuing on a space available basis until May 1, 2017.

The M.Ed. is a 30 semester–hour program that requires two years to complete. The program provides professional growth for licensed teachers. It is delivered primarily online, making it accessible for working teachers.

Other features include an emphasis on teacher leadership, small class sizes, professors dedicated to student learning, a supportive cohort learning community, and affordability.

The Center for Global Education and Exchange office will be holding a Study Abroad Fair on Tuesday and Wednesday, January 24 and 25, from 10:30 a.m.- 2:30 p.m., at the Library Lanai. UH Hilo students can learn more about the wide variety of exchange programs that are available to them. Returning study abroad students, study abroad advisors and new international exchange students will be at the fair to share what they’ve learned from studying and living abroad. 

Some quick information about studying abroad as a UH Hilo Student: 
-Ability to study in Asia, Europe, South America or Oceania on UH Hilo tuition.
-Financial aid and scholarships are available.
-Students can apply for a 60% off tuition waiver for the Semester at Sea program.
-Study abroad programs are as short as 1 summer to as long as 2 years.

The 22nd Annual Hoʻolauleʻa is occurring this weekend at UH Hilo.  This family friendly events will feature food, crafts, activities, carnival style games, a water slide, and live music from:

Japanese filmmaker and educator Miho Aida presents her award-
winning documentary film, "The Sacred Place Where Life Begins:
Gwich'in Women Speak," at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo on
Wednesday, January 11 at 5:30 p.m. in University Classroom
Building (UCB), Room 100. The event is free and open to the public.

The Gwich'in are an Athabaskan-speaking First Nation culture from Canada and Alaska.  The documentary explores the coastal
plain of Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge that has been
eyed for oil and gas development since 1986.  In the film,
Gwich'in women speak out for their sacred land.

The film was named the top documentary at the 2015 Central
Illinois Feminist Film Festival, received the Audience Choice
Award at the 2014 Earth Port Film Festival, and was nominated for
Best Documentary Short at the 2013 American Indian Film Festival.
Following the screening, Aida will discuss the film and her new
video series, "Standing Rock Women Speak," along with her efforts
to save the Standing Rock Indian Reservation in North and South
Dakota.

The event is sponsored by the UH Hilo Japanese Studies Program,
Gender and Women's Studies Program, Humanities Division, College
of Arts and Sciences, and International Student Services and
Intercultural Education Program.
