George Martinez Jr. has been a lifelong community organizer, educator and social entrepreneur. When former Minority Leader of the Alaska House of Representatives, Ethan Berkowitz ran for Mayor in 2015, he saw Martinez’s non-profit experience and past professional work as an asset to his office, appointing Martinez as Special Assistant to the Mayor. Martinez was inspired by Berkowitz’s vision and optimism for Anchorage, and honored by the opportunity to serve.

Victims for Justice was established in 1985 following a horrible crime in the Anchorage community—the murder of Janice Lienhart and Sharon Nahorney’s parents and their aunt. Neither Janice nor Sharon were allowed to defend their lost loved ones in court. This spurred in them a passion to fight for victims’ rights in Alaska—They wanted to create a local place where victims of violent crime could receive professional assistance and emotional support.

Every week, Chris makes posts to his personal Facebook page…”I need 28 travel toothpaste, and 28 toothbrushes, 22 chapstick, and we are good to go.” The Saturday prior, he had asked the homeless directly about what they needed, making his regular route to over 11 homeless camps and hangouts, starting at 10:00 a.m. on Northern Lights. The next weekend, he will go back out to the same groups of people and distribute what he gathered during the week, asking for future requests.

We’re seeing some great results for our clients, specifically in Anchorage, using a new geo targeting technology that the brilliant folks at Facebook have developed. It’s called Local Awareness Ads, and it’s designed to bring customers right to your door. The ads are created to target Facebook users that are within a certain radius near your office or facility. The ad itself provides directions to your location, a phone number for their convenience, and Facebook users are able to send a message to your company if they have a question.

Bean’s Cafe was founded in 1979 with a vision to provide food and shelter to the less fortunate in Anchorage. Several years later, The Children’s Lunchbox was formed to provide snacks and meals to local schools and other community programs.
