article : China unrealistic on Tibet, talks futile: Dalai Lama #tibet #buddhism #hhdl #dalailama

LONDON: Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama said on Wednesday resuming talks with China on his homeland’s future was futile unless it adopted a “realistic” stance, adding it was useless trying to convince Beijing he was not seeking full independence.

In comments likely to enrage a Chinese leadership already angry over his trip to Britain, the Dalai Lama also said a shift towards democracy and better human rights in China was inevitable and the Chinese people “really want change”.

The 76-year-old monk was speaking in Britain, which he is touring to spread a message of non-violence and compassion, touching upon issues including European economic woes, which he said were partly caused by “greed and ignorance” (+) »

When it comes to diplomacy with China, one must keep in mind that the Chinese perceive opposition with particular expectations.  Therefore, one must "play the part" to gain sufficient respect from the Chinese politicians.  Remember, if opposition is not viewed in a formidable light, the Chinese will be entirely unwilling to make any concessions.  The Chinese story of the 7 captures of Meng Huo is a good example of this lesson.

article : Make Buddha’s Teachings Relevant to Daily Life, says His Holiness #tibet #buddhism #hhdl #dalailama

http://tibet.net/2012/06/19/mind-training-and-wisdom-in-manchester/

« Manchester, 18th June 12

“Many of us recite the verses of taking refuge without really appreciating who or what the Buddha is. If you study, you can make the Buddha’s teachings relevant to your day to day life,” His Holiness the Dalai Lama said in Manchester.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama was visited this morning by his old friend Laurence Freeman, a Benedictine monk, who has been active in promoting Christian meditation. His Holiness previously participated in the Way of Peace with him, and they have meditated together. The two of them share a strong commitment to encouraging and engaging in inter-religious dialogue. Candle4Tibet will keep the flame alive until its goal — a FREE TIBET and a free world — has been achieved
Introduction
On our network you will find all about Tibet and HH the 14th Dalai Lama, community blog posts, videos, photos, and most important of all, friends who also want a FREE TIBET and a free world.

By uniting our lights for freedom in Tibet, we have started something huge. Our candles symbolize our non-violent pledges to work together until there is freedom for the people of Tibet.

Candle4Tibet was the the force behind a massive peaceful protest effort to bring freedom to Tibet. The network called on people around the world to light a candle on August 7 2008, formally expressing support for the Tibetan people.

Our universal agreement is now that Candle4Tibet will keep the flame alive until the main goal — a FREE TIBET and a free world — has been achieved.

To sustain this community of friends and keep it lively, strong, and close, the network holds a monthly « Candle For Tibet » ritual during which participants are asked to light a candle for Tibet and pray for the liberation of its people. To foster participation, the event will effectively take place over a 72-hour period starting from 6PM on the 7th day of each month until 6PM on the 10th.

These dates are not random. The 7th reminds us of the great concentration of candles which began on August 7, 2008, and the 10th corresponds to the anniversary of the Lhasa Uprising, which took place on March 10, 1959.

May our collective efforts bring freedom to the people of Tibet ! Tibetans will be Free ! Svaha !
