The boathouse really need to put some effort into training their staff and refurbishing the outdoor area. There appeared to be no gluten free/allergy friendly options. We were told to fend for ourself as far as seating was concerned, then forgotten about once seated. We were continually flagging down harried looking wait-staff who forgot water (we asked 3 times, never received it) but bided our time watching people sit down, then leave the restaurant after not being acknowledged. On top of that the outdoor area is very weathered looking and we were seated next to stacks of chained up wicker chairs (no one was sitting on these chairs, why are they stored there?!). The food is usually good, though a bit on the expensive side, however my encounter with a rotten potato really capped off a miserable dining experience, as did the attitude of the manager we spoke to after. We were given a discount but no apology was forthcoming.... needless to say we won't be back.

Recommend to anyone looking for a fun and interesting dining experience! Rabbit popcorn and steak tartare were standouts for me. Dessert is a must!

Every single time I go to this particular office works the service is APPALLING. I waited more than 10 minutes to get to the checkout today when the store was virtually empty. On one occasion the person behind the counter stopped mid-way through serving me to have conversation with another staff member.

Coffee and cakes are lovely here! Interesting combinations for the main meals. Not always in a good way - separately the elements are lovely, but the flavours together.... just not quite right.

2012 Edit: I USED love pint of milk. Obvious, little changes to the meals (one less piece of toast, tiny pancakes, simpler/less interesting sides) but no change to the price.... what an insult. If need be charge me more for the same quality food you used to have. Really, unimpressed with the food now, we left hungry. 2011: The food is very reasonably priced (compared to many 'east side' city cafes), I've never been disappointed with the food. The ricotta pancakes are the best thing going round! Great food, great service, very nice coffee. (I've been reluctant to review as I want to keep this place a secret!)
