That’s the Spirit! Our United Cheer Team have received eight Top 3 places in the recent ICE Street, Cheer and General Dancing event, as well as scooping the coveted Spirit Award for the day which was awarded for sportsmanship, encouragement and support!

The team travelled to Luton on Sunday 12th June to enter their first ICE Street, Cheer and General Dancing event. Nine Stunt Teams competed, some of which had never competed before and some that were competing in group stunt for the first time!

We arrived at the venue in good time and set a good attitude from the off supporting and congratulating all teams on and off the cheer mat. Everyone involved had a great day and came away feeling very pleased with their results.

Results are as followed:
Group Stunts – Mini Level 1 – UCT Glitters – 2nd place
Group Stunts – Mini Level 1 – UCT Crystals – 3rd place
Group Stunts – Youth Level 1 – UCT Pearls – 2nd place
Group Stunts – Junior Level 1 – UCT Moonstones – 4th place
Group Stunts – Mini Level 2 – UCT Sparkles – 1st place
Group Stunts – Youth Level 2 – UCT Diamonds – 1st place
Group Stunts – Youth Level 2 – UCT Opals – 2nd place
Group Stunts – Senior Level 2 – UCT Jets – 1st place
Group Stunts – Masters Level 2 – UCT Gems – 2nd place

The final award of the day was for the Spirit Award – this is an award chosen by the organiser and judges for the team that showed sportsmanship, encouragement and support throughout the day and I am over the moon to say UCT were the winners!

We were only there for part of the day but winning this award has shown what a fantastic supportive squad we are. Thank you and well done to everyone involved, the good luck gifts and cards you made and handed out were amazing.

One final thank you goes to the continued support that United Cheer Team has from parents, friends and family, chaperones and all the coaches that give up their time to help – I appreciate all of it and couldn’t manage without you all!

We are proud of you say we are proud of you………..Good Job!!
Nicola Drummond, Head UCT Coach

Well it’s official! Boston United and United in the Community have the ‘Best Community Programme’ in the three divisions of the National League.

That’s the verdict of judges who assessed community schemes across the 68-strong membership of the National League, National League North and National League South ahead of Saturday’s awards ceremony at the prestigious Celtic Manor Resort in Newport, South Wales.

The Pilgrims had already collected the ‘Best Health Project’ accolade at Saturday morning’s AGM for our ‘Active Pilgrims’ work before receiving further acclaim at the evening’s Congress Awards gala dinner by taking the overall ‘Best Community Programme’ title.

United vice-chairman Neil Kempster, the director responsible for the club’s community activities, told bufc.co.uk: “It is a proud moment for Boston United and United in the Community. We won the title in our own division in 2012, but to win the award across all three divisions this time is extra special and a testament to all the work that goes on behind-the-scenes on a daily basis. I would like to pay tribute to the staff and volunteers involved in delivering our many and varied activities and we look forward to taking our community work to an even greater level going forward.”

Our community programme encompasses a broad range of activities, including:

– Sports coaching in schools.
– Boston United Sports College (including full-time education programme).
– Elite and grassroots football coaching for boys and girls, including development centres.
– Boston United youth team.
– Boston United under-21s team.
– Walking football for over-50s.
– Cheerleading for both children and adults (United Cheer Team).
– Inclusive sport for people with poor mental health and disabilities.
– Health and physical activity programmes including badminton, netball, basketball and fitness classes.
– Skills, Training and Employment Programme including volunteering opportunities.
– Fan generation programmes.
– Matchday mascot experiences.

Active Pilgrims, which took the ‘Best Health Project’ honours, attempts to create and deliver affordable, accessible sporting opportunities for adults in the Borough of Boston. The project targets various sectors of the community including disabled people, semi-sporty people and those who do not participate frequently in sport.

The three-year project, which is funded by Sport England and the Football Conference Trust, gives people the opportunity to try out new sports such as badminton, netball, basketball and a variety of fitness classes at a low cost.
