YOU BELIEVE IN GOD; BELIEVE ALSO IN ME...

What is Jesus saying here? Is He making a distinction between Himself and God, the Father? And if so, what type of distinction?

I think the difference Jesus is highlighting is relationship and understanding of God. The Jews have believed in God, but they have not all known Him. Jesus said, “No one knows the Father, but the Son, and who the Son reveals Him to” (Matt 11:27). Without knowing the Son, they cannot know the Father…they can only know of the Father, which is what they do…and they know of Him as God alone.

They also cannot have an understanding of God’s true nature, apart from Jesus. Jesus is the revelation of God’s true nature; His love, wisdom, power and truth. So, without Jesus, we can’t enter into a personal relationship with God. Jesus said, “I no longer call you servants. I call you friends” (John 15:15). Because of Jesus, we can have more than an awareness of God, we can have intimacy with Him!

Jesus had to make this distinction, so that they would know that IT IS NOT ENOUGH SIMPLY TO BELIEVE IN GOD. It’s not enough to believe that God exists, or to know who God is, as the Hebrews do…

What makes God God?  Is it His love or His wisdom or His sovereignty?  These are perhaps His three most defining traits, but only one make Him God. The answer can only be found in the definition of a god.  A god is not defined by his goodness or his…

I want to share a testimony about how the Lord healed me recently.  It may be small to some, but every testimony grows faith, and I am sharing it so that my faith may grow, and so that others will believe and be encouraged that our God still heals and…

READER QUESTIONS: HOW DO I GET TO HEAR FROM GOD?

This question was asked in response to my post, “God Told Me You Are Not The One“. I responded that it would be a good post to tackle for the Reader Questions series, which is what I am trying to do today. By the way, if you do not believe that God speaks directly to His children today, I invite you to read “Hearing From God“.

Another reader also asked specifically for guidelines under the same post. Her comment is below:

Ufuo, from your stories and the way you bring out what’s in you, i have come to know that God speaks with you, i am longing to also hear him talk to me also. Please i need guidlines
Dear Reader,

First of all, I wouldn’t say that there is a formula for hearing from God! He is, afterall, the Boss. He decides if, when, how and how frequent He will communicate with each of us. But we ought to know that nothing moves God like FAITH!!!

Your faith not only challenges, but excites God to communicate with you… And as you do so more often, and as you HEED what He says, He will commune with you more…

THE DAY MY HEART BROKE

It had been a few months, and I knew something had changed. I didn't want to believe it, I couldn't bare the thought. I tried to explain his behaviour away, tried to think that perhaps our problems were circumstantial, and that we would soon overcome the rough patch. But it was not to be overcome, when it was my desire alone.

During that time, love songs rang through my mind like a depressed juke box, as if my soul was singing away its blues. I remember one of them being 'Can't stay away from you' by Gloria Estefan, and another was by Vonda Shepherd, 'Baby, don't you break my heart slow'. It was strange because I hadn't even listened to those songs for a long time. But my heart was already crying, because it knew that it was treacherously held.

I listened to those songs, and the lyrics told my story. His love was slipping through my hands, and there was nothing I could do to turn the tide. And even though I feared that it would destroy me for him to say the words - 'it's over', it was the release I needed to survive the long road to heartbreak...

HE'S NOT PSYCHOPATHIC, HE JUST DOESN'T LOVE YOU

Ladies, ever had one of those relationships where you seem to be going crazy trying to figure him out? He says he loves you, but things just don't add up in the way that he treats you. You might wonder if he actually hears you when you speak, or maybe he doesn't completely understand what you are trying to say, because no matter how often you correct and forgive him for doing wrong, he still does it anyway. And he still insists that he loves you.

Now, you want to believe that he loves you because he does some unusually nice things sometimes. He can be generous or attentive, but when you need him to listen because you are upset about something, there appears to be an inpenetrable wall between you, and you just can't get any understanding. But you are sure he loves you, because he says so. And because of some of his good qualities, and well, there isn't a perfect man out there, you second guess yourself, and overlook the fact that emotionally, you're hurting and starving! And the one who should be your best friend, isn't really a friend at all...
