Known Exoplanets Orbiting Stars Near The Sun

In the Milky Way galaxy, it is expected that there are many billions of planets, with many more free-floating planetary-mass bodies orbiting the galaxy directly. The nearest known exoplanet is Alpha Centauri Bb. Almost all of the planets detected so far are within our home galaxy the Milky Way; however, there have been a small number of possible detections of extragalactic planets. Astronomers at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics reported in January 2013, that "at least 17 billion" Earth-sized exoplanets are estimated to reside in the Milky Way galaxy.

Take this for what it's worth.   I fall in the "I'll keep an open mind" category.  Having said that:  I've read at least 3 different accounts from people who've claimed to have out of body experiences, traveling through space, who've claimed that they've found that life exists on other planets.  One of these claims to have found that humans are vastly spread on various planets throughout our own galaxy alone.  Again, take it for what it's worth, and remember that sometimes, truth is stranger than fiction.

I would have to be totally crazy NOT to believe in life on other planets.

well you should not be high when ya look at this..

Ray:  There are BILLIONS of planets out there.  You'd have to be high to rule out life on ALL of them without definitive proof.   While we don't yet have the proof our own primitive instruments can detect, why would you assume someone is "high" for NOT ruling OUT life on other planets?

I wonder if their species would be a form of evolved or pre developed human. Considering life follows earths parameters

It will certainly say a big fuck you to religion! I guess we'll have find another reason to killing each other.

Does religion say there is no life on other planets? If someone proved there was life on other planets, I don't think too many people would be surprised. They may be a lot like us, nothing like us, or nonexistent. Like life does, if our paths are meant to cross with others, all in good time that situation will occur.

Lol @ people thinking that humans are on other planets. Sure they may have some form of physical resemblance (eg. it might be helpful in evolution to have a type of thumb; stereoscopic vision etc.)

Finding a science that can find ET is the difficult part. We still try to listen for a sign using seti type instruments but ET might be living in a perfectly ballanced ecosystem with no need for technology (I do believe this is the galactic normal, technology kills us in the end).

How to reach life on other planets?
Or at least communicate with other technologies?
I hope we don't infect them with religion when we meet, or use them for food like the dodo.

I thought the kepler space telescope only watched a tiny portion of the sky for new planets. So how were are all these stars with planets were discovered?

i can barely count how many red lights i hit before i get to work

+Lee Tallett Maybe an FU to man's religion, but the existence of life on other planets really doesn't negate the validity of the existence of God and true relationship with Him.  There's nothing in the Bible that states that the Earth is the only planet with sentient life, so this would neither prove or disprove genuine spirituality.

Sola:  Other than the "LOL" and your speculation, I don't see anything concrete that would convince us that there DEFINITELY AREN'T humans on other planets.  Sure...I myself don't know for sure there is ANYONE, but at least I'm willing to keep an open mind until we find out definitively, and that will only be a matter of time.
