In just a few months, Planned Parenthood affiliates, organizers, and volunteers reached out to more than 1.5 million Americans to help them get covered. These folks are amazing—and we think that's a BFD.

Planned Parenthood Federation of America President, Cecile Richards, joined NOW with Alex Wagner to discuss recent events, and the bigger issue that will be before the Supreme Court this spring: whether bosses at for-profit companies can deny their employees access to birth control.

The Women’s Health Protection Act would create federal protections against state restrictions on abortion that do not advance women’s health and safety but actually create barriers.

Republicans in the House and Senate should step up and show they care about women's health by supporting these bills and demonstrating that "compassionate conservatism" that the party once so proudly trumpeted.

With more than 640,000 uninsured people, a legislature controlled by anti-women’s health politicians, and two infamous opponents of Obamacare--Mitch McConnell and Rand Paul--representing the state in the U.S. Senate, getting access to affordable health care in Kentucky may not seem like a cake walk. But things are starting to look up for the state. Why? Because Health Care Hero, Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear managed to accept Medicaid Expansion for the benefit of his state’s residents!

In June, Governor Rick Perry and his cronies rammed through extreme and dangerous anti-women’s health laws—after two special sessions, a citizen filibuster, and a Texas-sized standoff. A lot has happened in the Lone Star State since then. Click the link to read about things stand:

Birth control enables women to complete their education, support themselves financially, manage certain medical conditions, and plan their families. Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, millions of women now have access to birth control at no (out-of pocket) cost. Over 40 for-profit companies have sued to make that decision FOR women—because they don’t want to cover this benefit. CLICK the link for the full story!

A Deceptive Ballot Measure in Albuquerque

Senator Lindsey Graham may have introduced a bill that would ban abortion after 20 weeks in every state with extremely limited exceptions, but opponents of women’s health are taking a different tactic in New Mexico, trying to impose a city-wide ban in Albuquerque.

It is the first-ever popular referendum before voters, seeking a ban on abortion at 20 weeks, and it’s incredibly unpopular.  People from Albuquerque believe personal medical decisions should remain in the hands of New Mexican woman, with their faith and their families—they shouldn’t let others try to interfere in the private doctor-patient relationship. Nearly all sexually active women—99%—have used birth control at some point in their lives. It’s basic preventive care, and it's benefited generations of women who have been able to plan their families and accomplish their goals. That’s why today, we’re celebrating The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy’s first annual “Thanks, Birth Control” Day! Click the link for the full story!

We did it! Together, we have kept Ken out of the governor’s mansion and protected women’s health and rights in Virginia!
