I haven't posted in a while - very busy with travel and work.

Earlier this year I bought a Sony A7R and had it converted to a full spectrum camera.  I am sorry to say that my experience with it as an infrared camera has been disappointing.  When starting to shoot infrared with the camera (830nm filter) I noticed that it seemed to be less sensitive that my other current cameras.  While in Colorado, I did a direct comparison of the A7R in APS-C mode with my Sony NEX-5:  same lens, same IR filter, same ISO, same speed, same effective sensor size.  The A7R was at least 2-stops less sensitive than the NEX-5. As a check, I used a Kolari color filter that restores the camera to the normal visible response:  the A7R and the NEX-5 had identical sensitivity in this case.

So it is only the infrared sensitivity that seems to suffer with the A7R.
I have not yet investigated why this is the case.  One suspicion is that the 36 Mpix sensor in the A7R is considerably thinner and therefore less IR sensitive, but other factors might be involved.

More later if I learn why the A7R is so much less sensitive in the IR.

A new set of infrared photos from the Huntington Gardens in Pasadena.  I've been busy for a while and haven't been shooting very much.

Last May on a trip to Europe, I visited Musée de l'Orangerie in Paris and Monet's garden in Giverny.  For fun, I took up the challenge of capturing some "impressionistic" images of the garden. I have also posted some of these on my website @  tomprince.org

Speaking of Palomar Observatory, here are some Sony RX-100 infrared photos of the 48-inch Oschin Schmidt dome, the Palomar 60-inch telescope, and the 200-inch telescope and dome.

I haven't posted in a very long time, having been somewhat busy with other endeavors.  One of these is photography of a different sort.  We have been using the Palomar Observatory 48-inch Schmidt telescope to look for small near-earth asteroids that could possible reached by a robotic capture and return space mission.  These small asteroids can only be found fairly close to earth (within about 10 x earth-moon separation) and therefore are almost always streaked in the image.  The photo shows R-band (658nm) images of several streaking asteroids that we have spotted.  None of these is a "space-mission-accessible" asteroid, but we are developing the techniques to find good candidates.
