BUI: Misconceptions about Boating and DUI (https://goo.gl/AdzoaU)

Yes...you did not misread. It says BUI or boating under the influence. Often, people believe that the coast guard is easier on boaters than the police are on drivers of a car.

Boaters have as much responsibility for safe operation of a vehicle and sobriety as those who drive a car. In fact, the responsibility might be more because the water presents a hazard that cars do not. Because there is the potential to drown in a boat if you are intoxicated, the obligation might be higher to be sober and able to operate the boat safely.

As the number of alcohol related boating incidents increase, you should take a moment to understand these Coast Guard guidelines for boating under the influence and what BUI could mean to you >> https://goo.gl/AdzoaU.

HINT > You can get a BUI for paddling a canoe or row boat! Seriously, might want to read the guidelines!

California Law: Stylist or Bartender? (https://goo.gl/tZAy79)

You might not have even realized that California passed a new alcohol law in January of this year until your stylist offered you a beer or glass of wine. Throughout California, barbershops and hair salons now have the ability to offer clients free alcohol with their service.

If you are surprised, then you might need a haircut or coloring! smile Although many spas have offered clients relaxing mimosas or glass of champagne, the cut and clip industry of hair design has been falling behind in the service of alcohol until now.

While some patrons are loving the idea of an adult beverage during their hair service, it should be noted that many of the patrons served will get into their car and drive to their next destination.

Depending on the patron and the type of alcohol served, this could be a problem for the driver and the salon. It is important to be careful of drinking and driving in any part of California.

DUI and Driverless Cars? (https://goo.gl/EKj738)

In California, the law allows driverless cars on the road. This means that the car has control over the operation of the vehicle and the driver...well, rides! It is predicted that this type of car will reduce the number of car accidents due to human error.

This sounds like an all around win, right? After all, if you have too much to drink at dinner with some friends, then your car will get you home safely without a DUI.

Not quite - the law still requires that you are able and sober enough to drive in case you are needed by the car. Because there is still the ability of the car to turn over driving operations, the person in the driver's seat must be able to drive. If the driver is intoxicated, they are not legally able to take control of the car.

Although the laws in California are unclear about the subject, there might be more to come!

Driving Stoned: Pot and Highway Safety (https://goo.gl/odttgD)

Driving while stoned is indeed a thing! Many people only think of alcohol when they consider DUI, but the truth is that more and more people are driving under the influence of marijuana. With an increase in the number of stoned drivers on the road, the rise in accidents due to impaired driving under the influence of pot was due to come.

It is not a surprise that many people smoke or use marijuana in one form or another. Equally, it is not a surprise that people under the influence drive to work or drive their kids to school. People go about their daily tasks without thinking of the effects of marijuana on their judgment. It is kind of like drinking and driving. The best time to evaluate whether it is safe to drive is before you have been drinking!

With the increase in accidents by stoned drivers, another outcome is inevitable. The authorities are seeking to place a legal limit on the amount of a drug you can have in your bloodstream. At best, this is proving problematic.

DUI: Driving Under the Influence of Marijuana (https://goo.gl/uvb88s)

It is often that people confuse DUI with drunk driving. In the past, drinking and driving was a matter of driving under the influence. Now, DUI means driving while intoxicated.

The intoxication which prohibits driving can be alcohol, marijuana, or opioids. The drugs can be alcohol, of course. The drug might also be legal or illegal. In this case, the intoxicant was medical marijuana. It is not a matter of what causes the impairment of skills. Instead, the real problem with DUI is the driving while your skills are impaired by a substance.

Anything that causes your driving skills to be impaired is beside the point. The reality is what is illegal is driving under the influence. If you are impaired by a legal drug like alcohol or prescription, then the act of driving is illegal. If you are impaired by an illegal drug like marijuana (in some states), then the legal issue is compounded by driving.

DUI Checkpoints: Fleeing from Police (https://goo.gl/PxmKVL)

A DUI checkpoint can be a scary place if you have been drinking or partaking of drugs. Being behind the wheel of a car after drinking or using drugs, many people find that their first instinct is to flee.

It might seem like turning around is the best option to avoid a DUI arrest. In fact, it is at this moment that most people realize that the best option for avoiding a DUI arrest is NOT driving while under the influence.

Some other things are worse than an arrest at a checkpoint for DUI. One example is that you flee from a police checkpoint only to have them give chase. Police officers assume that you have something to hide - besides DUI - if you flee from the scene.

Another way that this scenario can be worse is if you cause an auto accident when you run from the police. If the accident results in an injury or death, then you might be in more trouble instantly. A DUI arrest can lead to additional charges for property damage, injury, or death in fleeing from the checkpoint.

Humor: DUI Checkpoint (https://goo.gl/YhH3xq)

Police checkpoints for DUI are all over San Diego. It can be hard to move through a checkpoint due to the time expenditure and backup in the line. DUI checkpoints help law enforcement keep the roadways safe.

Many people try to avoid the DUI checkpoints, but the truth is that sooner or later you will have to cross a checkpoint. It is important to remember that DUI checkpoints are legal, but this does not mean that you give up all of your rights.

You still have the right to remain silent. You have the right to retain a lawyer. These two rights are fundamental.

When you are stopped for DUI, you may be arrested for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Your lawyer will make sure that all of your rights are protected under the law. You do not give up your rights before, during, or after a DUI checkpoint stop.

Arrested at a DUI Checkpoint: What Now? (https://goo.gl/bzaRh3)

Many people start to panic when they see a DUI checkpoint. The simple fact is that a DUI checkpoint is there to find people who are breaking the law by driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

There are some things that make a DUI arrest worse. For example, aggressive or belligerent behavior toward a police officer during or after an arrest will cause problems with your defense. You need to be focused on what comes next at all times.

Another way to cause a DUI arrest to go from bad to worse is by trying to run from the police at a checkpoint. When you run from a DUI checkpoint, the police automatically assume that you have something to hide.

While you still retain certain rights at a sobriety checkpoint, you have to be aware that every step you take during this time reflects on your future court case and the ruling of the judge.

Teens: Alcohol is Dangerous (https://goo.gl/GG8kFM)

Many people think that buying alcohol for teens is fine as long as they are not driving. In truth, operating a car is only a part of the law. As a matter of fact, if the teen has a driver license, then driving a car is legal (without alcohol or drugs, of course!).

It is never legal to give someone under the age of 21 years old alcohol.

Alcohol is illegal for many reasons for those under the age of 21. Because alcohol limits the ability to think and react precisely, this could be a dangerous mixture when you consider their inexperience behind the wheel. When life or death choices need to be made, teenagers are not prepared with by experience to react properly or responsibly.

Whether walking, riding a bike, or driving a car, anytime a minor receives alcohol, it is illegal and could mean severe consequences for the adult who provides the substance including fines, community service, and jail.
