My wife's Pixel XL suffered what was most likely an infusion of condensed water by being stuck in an exercise arm band that was drawing in body moisture. Warm enclosed plastic area + moisture = Pixel death. The whole moisture part is not surprising, the unexpected part is that a protective band used as designed can kill a phone. Repair might have been cheaper than the insured difference, but I likely would have lost all future warranty on a 1 month old phone, the moisture indicators were probably all triggered.

Choose exercise arm bands wisely if your phone is not sufficiently water rated (IP67 may not even be enough for these conditions).

I did a sous vide turkey quarter today, cranked the Swid up to 63 degrees C for around 6 hours. Then cranked up the oven to full and gave it the nice finish. For this I ignored all the warnings and went right ahead anyway, and the warnings were right. Turkey legs aren't great done in sous vide. Having done quite a few on the Weber, the Weber wins hands-down. It wasn't terrible, but nowhere near as good as my Weber, so it was a lesson learned.

I'll try it again if someone has a better plan for a turkey quarter sous vide style, tell me what you think.

Here's a 4K video camera test I did on the Pixel XL, landing and taxiing a small Cessna:

Sometimes reality is better than science fiction. I hope Google gets there as quickly as they are working towards, we can only dream of a future of these machines working for us.

Is there any info on the ambient temperature a Raspberry Pi 2 can operate reliably in? I know there was a test on the original Raspberry Pi that saw it operate reliably up to around 50 degrees C before flaking out. We are looking at setting up sensors in the Queensland summer heat with no available shade and nothing but a crate that we might be able to use that also holds the battery and other equipment (a really hot box).

I don't really want to run a fan, these conditions are also dusty, if you rely on the fan something can easily jam it up.

I got around to making a 'poster version' of my Porsche scene. The one I posted a while back was a bit unfinished and flat, and wasn't well framed. All this is hand modelled in Blender3D and rendered in Cycles. Dozens of hours of work. Likely, this may be my first and last attempt and modelling for art sake for a long time to come. My attentions will now be turned to things more technical. I pretty much made this to see if I could...

Hey all, I've just released a new version of my word searching program WordNetDT:

http://www.ebswift.com/Desktop/WordNet/

It is freeware and ad free with no catches and no upgrade options, it is the full program.  Type in a word and find its meaning, then go on to find all its relative or alternative terms easily.  Go into advanced search and you can use misspelled words to find a word, use missing letter searches, anagrams and scrabble searches.

It works completely offline and has features that competitors don't offer for nothing.  It has a very powerful back-end database.  I have another project WordNet.Net just for the library that uses that, and there are many AI researches citing that work in their own papers and major projects.

Check it out, use it for finding those hard to think of words or beat those anagram or scrabble games.
