Innovative Quality Essential to Open Learning in LINQ 2015 Programme

Programme for “Learning Innovations and Quality” 2015 Includes Respected International Experts Addressing Motto “The Need for Change in Education: Openness as Default?”

How can the international scientific community develop open research and education to its fullest potential? What form should quality management take to cope with the constant innovation in learning technologies? The fourth annual LINQ conference on “Learning Innovations and Quality” will convene renowned international experts and voices from the field to answer these questions and more in Brussels from 11 to 13 May 2015. The complete conference programme is now available.

Corroborating LINQ’s themes, distinguished organisations have promised their support for LINQ 2015. The UNESCO Institute for IT in Education (IITE - iite.unesco.org) has announced its patronage of the conference and its Officer-in-Chief Dr. Alexander Khoroshilov will hold one of the core keynotes. Furthermore, Europe’s largest learning technology project, Open Discovery Space (ODS - www.opendiscoveryspace.eu), will host a high-level pre-conference event on innovative school education, a theme regarding which the project has collected uniquely extensive experience.

The pioneering Inspiring Science Education project (ISE - www.inspiring-science-education.net) will also host a special conference event centred on their experience in technology-assisted science education. In addition, members from the co-hosting International Community of Open Research and Education (ICORE - www.icore-online.org) will contribute to LINQ 2015 by fostering the potential connections and interactions between open research and educational practices.

The supporting organisations will provide a framework for discussing the scientific and practice papers selected by the International Programme Committee in double-blind peer-review, in addition to sixteen research project presentations. The selected six distinct and interactive workshops demonstrate LINQ 2015’s dedication to furthering quality education and facilitating interaction between all participants.

The complete LINQ 2015 programme can be found on the official conference webpage (http://2015.learning-innovations.eu/linq-2015-programme/).

Though non-profit in nature, the conference fee and registration through the LINQ website is required. The fee includes all provisions, including warm lunches, coffee breaks, the conference bag, and a copy of the official conference proceedings. Registration for LINQ 2015 is still open, but interested parties should act quickly, as accommodations are limited.

For the latest information on the conference, please visit and like the LINQ Facebook page at www.facebook.com/LINQConference and follow LINQ on Twitter @LINQ_Conference.

Direct enquiries can be sent to the LINQ Conference Manager Mrs Tatiana Shamarina-Heidenreich at the University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany (Tatiana.Shamarina-Heidenreich@icb.uni-due.de).

International Conference on “Learning Innovations and Quality” Announces Keynotes and Opens Early Registration

LINQ 2015 to Host UNESCO and European Commission VIPs Speaking on "The Need for Change in Education: Openness as Default?"

The 4th annual international conference on “Learning Innovations and Quality” (LINQ 2015) has announced its first keynotes and invited speakers for its event from 11-13 May 2015 in Brussels. Officer-in-Charge for the UNESCO Institute for IT in Education (IITE) Dr. Alexander Khoroshilov, Deputy Head of the European Commission's Unit on Innovation in Education Mr. Bodo Richter, and Senior Researcher at the European Commission Institute for Prospective Technological Studies Dr. Yves Punie will address this year's conference theme "The Need for Change in Education: Openness as Default?"

Dr. Alexander Khoroshilov brings his experience as inventor of the ICT Competence Framework for Teachers (ICT CFT), implemented internationally. His experiences gained as both Officer-in-Charge for UNESCO IITE and as the UNESCO IITE National Programme Officer provide him with unique insight into processes of certification and the transfer of competences across national borders.

Mr. Bodo Richter has gathered over a decade of experience working for the European Commission, including the European Institute of Innovation and Technology. Before becoming the Deputy Head of Unit there, Richter was responsible for international education and training policy development with industrialised countries, in particular the EU-US and EU-Canada cooperation agreements as well as the cooperation programmes with Australia and New Zealand.

Dr. Yves Punie leads research and policy activities on “ICT for Learning, Skills and Open Education" at the European Commission Institute for Prospective Technological Studies (JRC IPTS). His research covers four main interrelated research strands across all educational sectors: Open Education and OER, Innovating Learning and Teaching, Key Competences and 21st century skills, and the Future of Learning.

Their contributions to LINQ 2015 will ensure a strong basis for discussion regarding the developing global role of open educational resources and practices as well as the management of their quality. To join them, authors or project representatives still have the opportunity to submit papers, project descriptions, or workshop proposals to the three LINQ Calls until 4 March 2015 and to register until 31 March 2015 to take advantage of the early-bird registration rate.
