In celebration of #BlackHistoryMonth we will be featuring persons from around the British Virgin Islands.
Today we feature Mr. Elwin Anderson “Andy” Flax
There are some names, which keep reoccurring in the history of Virgin Gorda when it comes to the development of the hospitality industry in The Virgin Islands.
In the 1960’s, Elwin Anderson “Andy” Flax and his late wife Norma started to build what is known today as Fischer's Cove Beach Hotel and The Reef Restaurant. Fischer’s Cove is situated on an intimate beachside property in Spanish Town, Virgin Gorda. The Reef Restaurant is known for the best island cuisine and international classics.
Presently you can find Mr. Flax rendering taxi and tours to hotel guests. A visitor to Virgin Gorda and Fischer’s Cove once remarked that if one can trace their lineage he can be considered a “thoroughbred”. The Spanish interpretation for the work thoroughbred is “valeroso”, meaning courageous, active and strong. All of these adjectives and more can be truthfully applied to the individual who is responsible for what Fischer’s Cove is today.
