To norther Utah gardeners: with projected high's of almost 70 degrees, I will be having my 1st square foot gardening class of the year.  We'll begin promptly at 11:00 AM and will finish at 1:00 PM.  You'll learn all the basics of the SFG system.  Please bring a pair of garden gloves as this is a hands-on workshop experience.  We'll spend additional time showing you how to protect your gardens should winter return(and it will!)  And you'll learn how to make compost.  The charge for the class is $25 and we do this at my home where you can see an actual SFG up and running at this time of season.  Contact me by email at: jrt2020_2@msn.com if you'd like to attend..  Learn how to do it the right way.

Lots of things being planted this time of year.  In fact, it's my busiest time of year for planning and planting.  Here's some arugula.  Any bigger than this and it's too spicy for me.  I like to keep it baby size so it doesn't ruin the whole salad. Then again, some people crave the strong pepper taste.  I'm just not one of them.

Planted a lot of mizuna and claytonia today....few squares of arugula.  Starting to feel the pressure for everything to go right for the first April harvest basket deliveries.

Compost is the way to go!  With the large amount I was able to make last fall, its been coved in plastic under a hoop all winter.  Its been so good to have around-whenever I've needed to get a new square ready to replant, all I have to do is take a small pail over to the compost bin, fill it up, and add it to the square I'm amending.  The stuff in magic.

Planning for spring square foot gardening classes to be held at my home in April.  It's a great 2 1/2-3 hour class.  If you're a northern Utah gardener and want to learn the easiest way to garden, contact me through my blog under the same name: thewealthyearth

To folks who say you can't, yes, you can sprout carrots.  And you get them up 3 weeks earlier

Seen a lot of folks say this method doesn't work for them but I don't understand why?  Been doing it this way for over a decade without any problems-ever!

I know of 6 or 7 different crops that will germinate in the winter months.  Hard to believe in zone 6B where we just had 5 inches of snow with single digit temperatures in the forecast the next few days(night temps.).  Here's one that does very well in this weather:....

Forecast for Christmas Eve?  4-8 inches of snow!  Outstanding....I love it though...
