I'm very happy to learn that Soylent, my daily lunch, makes well informed decisions about the use of GMOs, and does so openly.
Proudly Made with GMOs As a society, we struggle to satisfy the global demand for food. One in nine people across the globe suffer from hunger, and in order to keep pace with the rate of population...

This is getting startling close to an economic model I'm putting together and considering. This could actually be a stepping stone in that direction...

I'm a huge fan! I'm very hopeful for the future of crop engineering and the positive environmental impacts as we learn more and become better practiced.

Yes, GMOs Are Safe (Another Major Study Confirms)
http://www.forbes.com/sites/gmoanswers/2016/05/20/gmos-are-safe/

If you have lingering questions about GMO crops and food, there is good news. An exhaustive new study by the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, found that GMOs are safe. Dive deeper into the NAS study and find out the key takeaways.

GMOs are safe, as long as you don't do something stupid like insert soy allergens into corn.... and even then, they're still safe for most people, just not people with a soy allergy. I'm all in favor of responsible genetic engineering, and labeling products with what was altered so that people have the ability to avoid them if they have a need/desire to do so.

If this story is accurate: jaw dropped!

A Cure For The Common Cold? Meet IBM's Macromolecule
http://www.techtimes.com/articles/158503/20160515/a-cure-for-the-common-cold-meet-ibms-macromolecule.htm

A new macromolecule from IBM could mean the end of all viral diseases, including Zika, Ebola, and the common cold. How does it work?

...and this is why Critical Thinking and Independent Verification is so vital.

I was fortunate and got to take a whole class on the subject in junior high.

Just upgraded from the Kubuntu Backports PPA to Neon and thought I would share (especially considering it is not the recommended way to install Neon).

Steps followed:
rm /etc/apt/sources.list.d/kubuntu-ppa-ubuntu-backports-xenial.list
cat <<EOF > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/neon.list
deb http://archive.neon.kde.org/user xenial main
EOF
apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys E6D4736255751E5D
apt update
apt -y full-upgrade
apt install kpmcore
apt -y full-upgrade
apt purge libkf5screen-bin
apt install libkf5screen7
apt -y full-upgrade

And so far everything seems to be working okay. I am experiencing a few bugs that, based on bugs.kde.org I should expect:
1. On my 3 monitor setup, 2 screens do not load plasma on login which I'm working around by 'killall plasmashell && plasmashell' followed by rearranging my panels.
2. Task managers show the applications from the wrong screen (two of my screens swap which applications should be visible on the task manager). 'Fixing' this by using the icon-only task manager on one screen for all screens (which is how my laptop at home is configured, anyway).

Let me know if I missed anything or if you know of any fixes for my couple of issues. Overall, everything runs MUCH better. My system has had an unjustified lag since installing Kubuntu 16.04 that is no longer an issue. That, alone, has made this a great upgrade. (Unfortunately, a fresh install wasn't an option for me at this point.)

There isn't a day that goes by that I am not increasingly more impressed with Linux and the developers that maintain it!

The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of a world-wide 'gift economy'... On the surface I imagine it would work similar (but not exactly like) to the Open Source world. ponders
