http://open-advice.org/ More personal lessons and anecdotes from FLOSS people. Short, varied, easily digestible. Some excellent pieces.

Next time I consider taking the amazon delivery box trash out, I'll have an excuse not to ... http://arstechnica.com/science/news/2012/01/for-a-creativity-boost-think-outside-the-boxliterally.ars

Trying to buy MP3s from #amazon can be adventurous. I am a) currently travelling the US, but b) not living there. Because of (a) amazon.de won't let me purchase and due to (b) amazon.com won't let me either. Luckily, ssh+socks > a+b .... but c'mon, seriously? ...

It's a tough call. I find that it keeps me seeking for fresh new stuff, which is good. The downside is that I spend less time (overall) listening to each artist as I'm always moving on. I get favourites that I come back to, but with a constant influx of 'new hotness' it's hard to give some the listening they deserve.

delicious.com - the bookmarking service - got a mid-december makeover (finally!). With the focus on stacks, it feels like a little magazine store that one can browse for random interesting topics. For example: how about potato cooking inspirations? Or craft ideas with felt (including a Kindle cover)? #yum #neat

Who is also positively addicted to readitlaterlist.com (or instapaper) ... and can recommend a similar queueing system just for videos?

Thanks, Jan. Gave it quick try, bit heavy-weight, yes. Going with http://radbox.me for now. Con: they - just like many others - don't have an Android App (yet) http://blog.radbox.me/post/3708537359/androids-freedom-and-the-dark-side

I knew I should have read "The Pragmatic Programmer" already. Guess this guy has a good chance of becoming my new desk friend and problem solving accomplice. http://c2.com/cgi/wiki?RubberDucking

The bear sits outside the manager's office. Those who come to discuss a technical topic should first ask the bear.

Some people gripe about the lack of #metrication in the US. Could I please add lack of support for int. phone numbers (i.e. != 10 digit) on web forms to the discussion? Even businesses targeted on tourists require a US phone. Makes me wonder what the situation is like in Germany.

Oh yes, I don't think it's intentional. It's really just something that's not in our consciousness here. Unless you spend time interacting with people in Europe you'd never be aware of the difference at all.

Open source projects looking back at some of their design decisions. Not all of the stories are worth the read (Asterisk makes for a pretty bad opener), whereas others tell a good story on evolution, design adjustments, and lessons learned (e.g. Graphite or BDB). http://www.aosabook.org/en/index.html
