We can do this the hard way or the easy way... (Tuesdays with Dorie BwJ: French Bread & Sunny-Side Up Apricot Pastries)
In the kitchen, like in life there is usually an easy way to get things done and a hard way. It's not a matter of right or wrong; sometimes its just about getting the job done and figuring out which way fits into what the needs of the moment are. And that's...

Holding on (Tuesdays with Dorie BwJ: Oven-Roasted Plum Cake)
Today, I saw some trees exhibit the first flush of autumn. Edges of green leaves starting to shift toward shades of orange and red. The days have taken a Jekyll and Hyde approach - one day is firmly planted in the realm of summer, the next sending bold hint...

At least they didn't throw it at me... (French Fridays with Dorie: Tuna Confit with Black Olive Tapenade & Tomato Salsa)
Whenever I hear the word "confit", I immediately start looking for the duck legs. I am pretty sure the confit + tuna concept has never independently crossed my mind.    My last experience with a tuna looked something like this...   This 180+ pound tuna resu...

#sorrynotsorry (French Fridays with Dorie: Curried Chicken, Peppers and Peas en Papillote...or not)
Likes and dislikes are a funny thing. They aren't always based in logic and I am not convinced that we have 100% control over what we like and don't like. I know that tastes can be "acquired" - mind over matter and all that, but does that mean we really LIK...

Do you ever wonder? (Tuesdays with Dorie BwJ: Poppyseed Torte)
Apparently, not very many people in my neck of the woods buy their poppy seeds two cup-fulls at a time. This was the conclusion I reached after seeing the reaction of the cashier at the grocery store. I have to believe that customers make stranger purchases...

Introduction
Hi. Thanks for stopping by. This is me. Floundering parent of two college-ladies ("Runner Girl" and "Culinary Kid") and keeper of a some-what empty nest. By day, I work in an office; by night, I spend a lot of time trying to figure out "what comes next". Often persistent. Always curious. And a whole lot quirky.

Our world definitely keeps us busy...and in between "pushes on the accelerator", I like to dabble with whatever has captured my interest at the time.

Hobbies include baking, cooking, reading, hiking (not necessarily in that order). Oh, and I like cake - I really, really like cake.
