Well, about that... (French Fridays with Dorie: Quiche Maraichère)
Do you ever wonder what causes you to be interested in one thing but feel totally "meh" about another? For example, I can watch ice hockey all day long; but five minutes with a football game on is five minutes too long. (I guess football doesn't even rate a...

I like Plate to Pixel - I just don't spend enough time working on what I have read :-(
We've had lovely weather here in Zagreb for the past couple weeks. Sunny, warm days with a fresh spring breeze blowing gently and filling the air with white and pink petals from the flowering fruit trees and magnolias. It is ...

On the small side... (Tuesdays with Dorie BwJ: Mocha Brownie Cake)
I have found that in life, many things are better when they are smaller. Granted, there are some exceptions to this (for example, I wouldn't complain if my bank account were larger...), but overall being small isn't such a bad thing... For example, when I a...

Hello, Thursday... (Tuesdays with Dorie BwJ: Buttermilk Scones)
Hello, Thursday. When did you get here? It's been another mind-numbingly, frantically insane week in the world and I am still not sure which part of me is coming and which part of me is going. Eventually, the pieces will catch up to each other. Somewhere be...

The road is paved with good intentions (Tuesdays with Dorie BwJ: Potato Lefse)
The road to Tuesdays (with Dorie) is paved with good intentions. The potatoes were prepped and ready to go for a Sunday afternoon cook off. I had every intention of turning these into a pre-dinner snack. Or something... And then, life happened. The girl was...

Stuff (French Fridays with Dorie: Scallop and Onion Tartes Fines)
Stuff. Whenever someone asks one of my girls what is going on, the answer is usually "stuff". When I emptied out the contents of my spare room into my dining room this past week, I realized that I had just signed myself up for the chore of going through a l...

On the side... (French Fridays with Dorie: Sausage Stuffed Cornish Hens)
My first memories of stuffing poultry go back a long time. It was usually the night before Thanksgiving (or some other turkey worthy holiday). Dad would pull out the hand cranked grinder (the one that attached to the built-in pull out cutting board that alw...

aka Cleaning out My Fridge... (French Fridays with Dorie: Garbure from the Supermarket)
So, this week, French Fridays with Dorie sent us down the path of "Garbure" making. My first reaction was "what the what?" Going into this, I had no clue what a "garbure" was, but Wikipedia told me that it is a thick French soup or stew with ham and cabbage...

Introduction
Hi. Thanks for stopping by. This is me. Floundering parent of two college-ladies ("Runner Girl" and "Culinary Kid") and keeper of a some-what empty nest. By day, I work in an office; by night, I spend a lot of time trying to figure out "what comes next". Often persistent. Always curious. And a whole lot quirky.

Our world definitely keeps us busy...and in between "pushes on the accelerator", I like to dabble with whatever has captured my interest at the time.

Hobbies include baking, cooking, reading, hiking (not necessarily in that order). Oh, and I like cake - I really, really like cake.
