Born and raised in northwest Louisiana, I became interested in math and science at an early age. I started out as an engineering major in college, but was encouraged by my parents to pursue a business degree, so I did. I graduated and became a Certified Public Accountant, or CPA.
I met my to-be wife in 1988 and we were married in 1993. Our son was born in 2001 and our life has been blessed in so many ways by this precious child. We are truly grateful to God for our child and he has brought so much happiness into our lives.
I worked for the City of Houston for over 16 years and was the Assistant Finance Director there for the later part of my career there. After Hurricane's Katrina and Rita, Mayor White put me in charge of the financial coordination with FEMA which made me responsible for documenting, accounting for and submitting over $300 million worth in claims to FEMA for the costs associated with the evacuees that were coming to Houston from New Orleans and other parts of south Louisiana. I was proud to be a part of that effort, the Mayor put together a really great team and everyone did a fantastic job, including the Mayor at seeing to it that the evacuees were taken care of, were found a place to live, that their children were enrolled in school, and that anyone needing work received assistance at finding it, or job training to qualify for a job. It was a high point of my career in public service.
