Christine Beardsley

CHARLOTTE – The superintendent of the Eaton Regional Education Services Agency has been placed on paid non-disciplinary administrative leave while the intermediate school district’s finances are being investigated, according to RESA board President Jim Lehman.
Christine Beardsley was placed on leave after a unanimous vote by board members in a special meeting Thursday evening.
“We have discovered some accounting issues and decided it would be best to do an external investigation,” Lehman said. “Christine said she agrees with the decision and welcomes the opportunity.”
The Rehmann Company, an auditing firm, will conduct the investigation. Lehman said it should take about two weeks and that police are not involved at this point.
He said trustee Sara Clark Pierson, a certified public accountant, noticed accounting discrepancies while examining the budget. He said a new accounting program appears to be logging numbers incorrectly, but wants an external investigation to see what happened.
Eaton RESA supports Eaton County school districts by providing educational services, incouding career and technical education, preschool and special education for Grand Ledge, Eaton Rapids, Charlotte, Potterville, Maple Valley, Island City, Oneida Strange school districts as well as Relevant and Life Tech academies.
