Never actually got to eat at Can Can & if I'm back in the area, I certainly won't ever try again. On a visit to Richmond with friends from Ohio, PA, & Tennessee, our very hungry group ended up here because we'd gotten some glowing recommendations about it. OK, we should've tried to make reservations, & we figured it would be busy, but we wanted to give it a try anyway. Everywhere takes walk-ins, right? Here's what I can tell you about our Can Can experience: A) Parking was impossible. Is there some secret trick here? There was LITERALLY NOWHERE to park for blocks & blocks & blocks. I got out & ran into the restaurant to see about a wait time while my friends circled the area looking for parking spots. B) The wait was an hour & a half, which is fairly ludicrous. I wouldn't wait that long for, well, just about anything. But perhaps more importantly, C) The hostesses were SO RUDE that after talking to them, we wouldn't have waited to eat there even if we'd been inclined to. They were the epitome of snooty, practically laughing at us when we asked about wait time without a reservation - as though it was comical & unheard of that we dare TRY to eat brunch without them. Even if the wait had been shorter, I would not have eaten at this restaurant following such an interaction with their front-of-house staff. A Twitter friend recommended Joe's, a guy told me over the phone that they had immediate space for us, & we headed that way. We had a great, fun, boisterous meal of regular old diner fare with a very, very friendly server & cheap pitchers of mimosas, & we couldn't have been happier not to have been at Can Can Brasserie.

My cousin Joshua has worked for Can Can for two years as a server as well as a trainer. On friday January 2nd Josh went to pick up his paycheck and inform management that he would not be returning to the restaurant, as he was leaving to move out west. Josh had worked Sunday through Wednesday of that week. My aunt personally picked him up on new Years eve from the restaurant after his shift. The management and owners of this establishment are now refusing to pay him for his worked hours saying that they have no record of him working. I find this to be a travesty and a terrible thing to do to a good employee. Josh had, to this date worked almost 6 days a week for months and covered many shifts for other employees and had been an important member of the serving staff. I believe it's patrons should be aware of their integrity in considering then for their dining needs.

Brilliant atmosphere. Had some good pints at the bar here. Will try the food soon. A must stop if you are in downtown Richmond.

We went here on New Year's to have a quick drink and to say the least I wasn't impressed. The bartenders were extremely rude and drinks way over priced. I would never recommend this establishment to anyone. DO NOT GO HERE!!!

A terrific brasserie serving standard fare. Menu is basic, execution is decent. Indoors is bright and airy; outdoor seating is nice on a spring day. Service is friendly and solicitous.

I want to share experience my about this restaurant called the "Can Can." My sister was celebrating a milestone birthday and this was the place of her choice. We made reservations and arrived 20 minutes before the scheduled time to make sure we were on time. I had no problem waiting but finally when we were seated it took the server about 5-10 mins to approach the table. Then about 15 mins later she came back and took the order. There was no information that was offered about the menu or what the "Can Can" is known for. She took our order and never asked or offered any drinks of any kind to upsell her ticket. The menu "that we received" didn't offer a lot of choices but looking at other tables what I read on the menu wasn't offered on mine. The server took 40 mins to bring out our order and in that timeframe only bought refills of water to the table. She never explained that it would be a while before the food arrived and seemed kind of put off that she had to wait on us. I assure you that I am not picky and we try a different RVA restaurant monthly and by far the food and service was the WORST of all time this year! I cannot say if I were a different race if the service would have been better but it sure as hell felt that way. I even called to report our experience the next day and the manager by the name of Andrew didn't ask any specifics about our table until I mentioned to him that it seems he has had a nonchalant attitude as well. He stated that he knew exactly who we were because of the size of our party of 13, (the only black folk) and will speak with the server and kitchen manager to get their side of the story and call back to see if there would be anything that he could do for us as this wasn't brought to his attention "the day of the incident." I explained that we didn't want to ruin her birthday by complaining and just wanted to pay the tab to get out of there asap. It had already took long enough to be seated, order and get the food that was so OVERLY priced and tasteless. As far as I am concerned I will never recommend this place to anyone. The "Can Can" should be called the "Trash Can!"

I enjoyed a glass of red wine, a delicious, fresh salad and the beef tartare. I expected to order more, but the tartare came in such a hefty portion that I couldn't even finish it! I will come back here when I am in Richmond again.

We went to dinner here several weeks back. We brought out-of-town guests.They also went to Millie's while here and said it was phenomenal. The service was okay, but pretentious. The food was okay until they brought out my monkfish and it was in no more words than disgusting. I need not say more. However, friends wanted to go to brunch so we agreed, hoping for a better experience. It was hands down one of the worse experiences we have had, and not expected at what is touted to be an upscale restaurant. First we sat at the table for several minutes before being acknowledged. Then we got water and were asked about if we wanted an order of beignets, which we ordered. He did not ask regarding drinks, said he would be back. 10-15 minutes later he arrived with the beignets and asked about drinks, we ordered tea, coffee, and cocktails. The tea came 10 minutes later and an empty coffee cup. No coffee for at least 20 more minutes. When he finally showed up with coffee I swear to you, he went to the surrounding tables who all came in after us and offered them refills on their coffee. The meals came, and the drinks came when we were 90% done with our meal. When we thought it might get better, he did not ask if we wanted any dessert (which we did) and then gave us the check. We enjoyed another cup of coffee and then a girl who was not the hostess dressed as one of the waiters came and asked us to leave because they had a reservation for "our" table. Mind you I would understand this IF there were not 1, 2, but 3 empty 4 tops in this waiters area. It was simply one of the worst experiences at a restaurant in RVA. There are so many, many better places to part with $60 for two for brunch!
