Just to add a bit of information as perspective, at the end of podcast number 362, The Spirit of Public Health, KMO attached a clip from an interview with Paula J. Clayton, M.D. where she suggested that gun control might be a good way to prevent suicides.

I live in rural Japan, so I do know some Japanese who own firearms, but the average person will tell you they are illegal. That is how rare those objects are. On the other hand, Japan has the 9th highest suicide rate in the world, with 21.7/100,00 population. The US, in contrast, is 33rd with 12/100,000.

Dr. Clayton's suggestion that limits on firearm possession will decrease the suicide rate is falacioius.

In keeping with some of the themes of C-Realm podcast #346: Preserving Moral Progress, I thought this was interesting.

In the podcast Charles C. Mann talks about the really interesting being micro flora and fauna rather than the human epiphenomenon.

Thanks to KMO and the initiators of this community. I'm on the Asian side of the Pacific, living events here. The newest, a currency war. I'm hoping that it's one where people shoot fiat currency at each other, but it probably isn't.
