Impressive guide by +Swapnil Bhartiya.

Finally this big project is over. Now I just have to keep it updated. And we also seek writers to write similar guides for opensuse, gentoo, Fedora, Debian and so on...
The whole idea of Arch is to install and configure each component manually.

+Swapnil Bhartiya makes a good point here. Everything is captured in the sentence "No matter which direction I go, I gain some and I lose some."
I feel exactly the same and will extend it to my others - Deepin, Xfce, Lxde, Openbox or for that matter Cinnamon which I installed for my wife.
The Linux desktop has so much to offer. There are so many choices. Still, it’s almost impossible to have your cake and eat it too.

may not be much help sorry +Mads Hansen

no idea where i'd go online for themes, mine were copied from old distros (before upgrade/change etc, even many from live distros i never installed) to one of my servers. because xfce has changed less than orher DEs i've had good success keeping them going;

i've also never fully understood impacts of window.manager and display.manager. i know xfce uses WM (obvious from xfce4-sett...), but i also had trouble configuring a machine which i think i fixed by changing DM as then found it easy to do (which may have just been luck and me seeing an option i ignored before)

i'm mostly at tty, so would type "xfce4-<tab><tab>" then pick what i think will work, ie. mostly experimentation. partially do this as i'm using many machines & distros, also cause i have a lousy memory!! going thru menu's i find slower, plus as i have multiple DEs on my machines, i'm likely to open a KDE.settings if going by mouse-menu.

"Busting the myth that the generation after millennials are digital natives, that they are really good at computers. But they’re not. Charlie Reisinger tells us how closed software and hardware plays a role. And, how open source software and hardware is the answer."
At Penn Manor school district they are unlocking the true power of technology. See how in this 5 minute video.

Less random choices, to be fair
If company CEOs can be replaced by computers, why not the president of the United States?
