Scanner question for the hive mind: Until recently, I scanned most of my artwork with a Mustek A3 scanner that I bought for a bargain price 10 years ago. It recently gave up the ghost so I went online to search for another Mustek to replace it... but the comparable scanner has now tripled in price (For what I originally paid for it, I could overlook the Mustek's flaws, but can't bring myself to pay $600+ for a scanner I originally paid less than $200.00 for). I tried a couple other of the inexpensive scanners (Plustek, Brother, etc.) and most of these did OK for black and white but sucked at scanning pencils or color work (the Plustek A320 was particularly bad).
I'm considering going back to painting on paper (instead of masonite) and then scanning in sections on my A4 size scanner and stitching together in Adobe Bridge and/or photoshop and/or investing in a better digital camera and just photographing the damn things.
What do you all suggest?
PS: A $2,300.00 Epson scanner just isn't affordable.

It's wizard time.
I'm told that when he was in college, Bowie studied cabaret and mime arts... which explains the pants I guess.

I think Miley Cyrus may originally be from Carcosa.

In Carcosa, if the sign in the Botanical Gardens says, "No visitors beyond this point," it is best to take the warning seriously.

I'm planning on running a seminar/roundtable at U-Con in Michigan this year for artists and publishers interested in getting into the game of publishing, specifically for OSR and DIY type stuff but many of the issues will be applicable to 'real' publishing. I was inspired to do this because I get lots of emails asking, "What kind of materials do I need to draw like that?" and similar. I was going to cover basic art supplies and suggestions, then scanning work, dealing with clients, using source materials, etc. Any issues the group thinks should be covered? Are any other artists attending that would like to guest with me on this? Beyond photoshop/illustrator, I don't do a lot of digital, so digital artists would be a great thing, plus the moire the better.

I'm new to the whole concept of die-drop tables but love the concept. My die-drop table:

Someone liked my drawing of a severed head so much he had it permanantly inked onto his hide. No greater flattery.

More generalized thoughts on Khunmar. I've set the manuscript aside to work on other things, but that doesn't stop me from thinking about it.

I'm also thinking about ways in which I can make the maps more useful in describing the often 3d nature of the different levels.
