"We cannot start over but we can start now & make a new ending."- Zig Ziglar.

What a perfect quote to begin a new year! As we look back over 2013, at times it seemed as though we may never get through this year but at other times we were smooth sailing. We tend to look at the times throughout our lives as seasons. It was this past year that it was brought to our attention that every stage of our lives is a season. Ecclesiastes 3:1 say, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens”. Some of the seasons last a long time, some are here and gone before we know it, some hit us without warning and others we see off in the distance.
As business owners, it seems our seasons are constantly changing. We’ve learned when we tell God that we are in control of our business whether it’s in our actions or by our words that He quickly shows us our need for Him to be the head of it all! We’ve learned to expect the unexpected. Never assume anything. We’ve learned that God will bless us to the point our cup overflows and to always be grateful for the overflow rather than complaining that we can’t catch it.
In some ways, 2013 was our toughest year since we opened our doors but in other ways it was our best year yet! We began the year by finding the missing piece to our puzzle when we found our office manager we had been looking for two years. Once we got the right person in the office seat, things began to run full steam. Although we had the office in order, we struggled the entire year as we continued to turn down some of our best customers and new customers because our workload became so heavy. Never in a million years did we think that finding employees would be our biggest mountain. In the midst of struggling to climb this mountain, we lost our most tenured plumber/employee. In spite of this happening, we knew that God had a plan. It’s during the seasons when we don’t understand God’s plan that we learn to trust Him even more! As we began looking for someone to replace the plumber we had just lost; our other plumber proved we could count on him as always! He went above and beyond to help carry us through this difficult time! What a huge blessing he was to us! However, our difficult season didn’t last very long because God provided (just as He promises) with a new plumber who is also a great fit to our company! How many times did we cry out saying, “If we just had MORE plumbers”? It was about half way through the year that I told Nate maybe we need to BE STILL….maybe God is telling us, “No, you don’t need more plumbers. I have a plan.” We learned that impatience is a lack of trust therefore; we learned that hiring out of desperation can be one of the worst decisions made in a business. Being still enough to hear the voice of God during an overwhelming busy season takes a lot of self-discipline!

Our situation is much like Peter the fisherman. Peter was a small business owner who struggled to make ends meet. At one point, Jesus asked Peter and the other fishermen, “Friends, haven’t you any fish?” The fishermen answered, “No”. Jesus said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish. After Jesus had overflowed Peter’s nets with fish, He then asked Peter to walk away from it. Hands down, the biggest lesson we’ve learned this year is just because God fills our cup causing it to overflow with opportunities doesn’t mean we have to capitalize on all of them. Sometimes He gives us more opportunities than what we are capable of handling so that we will trust Him to keep His promises to provide. Our faith and trust in Him as a husband/wife team in owning this business has definitely grown and strengthened during each season we experienced in 2013! We know that it is by His hands that we are in business that we have such a great team and He continues to fill our nets plentiful! We are truly blessed and we give Him all the GLORY for 2013 in trial and triumphs! We are really excited to see what God has planned for us in 2014! We are ready to grow in Him and be a light to others in the process! We would like to wish everyone a blessed new year!
