Gov. Rick Scott, #GastroparesisAwarenessMonth is nationally recognized & proclaimed in 42 states - but not in Florida: https://iffgd.org/press-releases/2018-0801-iffgd-raises-awareness-for-gastroparesis-awareness-month-to-make-patient-voices-heard.html. Denied 2 years in a row without explanation.

We could use your support, but regardless, we will be heard, Dear Governor!

Dear American Gastroenterological Association (AGA) and American College of Gastroenterology:

#Gastroparesis patients are frustrated by the lack of understanding, knowledge, and appropriate medical care surrounding our illness, and it is time to make a change! You all may not be aware, but this August is #GastroparesisAwarenessMonth -- so what better time than now?

We need your help in spreading awareness, addressing our issues, fighting for education and funding, and establishing appropriate protocols and decent medical care!

Now, I realize you all are very busy, but I recall back in March, during Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, seeing numerous posts and articles in support of patients living with that illness. I helped share them, as a matter of fact. And I recall many posts around the time of #DDW18 supporting #IBS, #IBD, and general concepts such as shared decision-making and the importance of patient knowledge and participation in their own care. And since that time, I have seen numerous posts about all of the previous topics as well as #Crohns, #UC, the #Microbiota, #Telemedicine, #Cryotherapy, and even #Hemorrhoids.

But I have not yet seen any posts in support of Gastroparesis Awareness Month. I am sure this is simply an oversight, but I feel it is my obligation to point this out because... well, I am a Gastroparesis patient and advocate, and my online community is counting on me to bring to light the issues involved in our care and get us some help.

I am a polite person, but I am not a shy person, and my people are struggling for answers and assistance. So, the days where we remained silent must end, and conversation between patients and providers, while remaining civil and appropriate, must begin. Today, we are not content with the status quo, and we refuse to tolerate it any longer. Gastroparesis lives matter!

We are standing up, speaking out, and demanding change!

We look forward to your support of our campaign!

Oh, look, Gov. Rick Scott! #GastroparesisAwarenessMonth is on the NHO calendar & has been since 2016: https://healthfinder.gov/NHO/nho.aspx?year=2018#677. Nationally recognized and proclaimed in 42 states -- but not Florida. Goodness, we are not even asking for funding! One would think Florida would be happy to get on board, Dear Governor. It costs you NOTHING to spread #Gastroparesis awareness!

Remarks from the Senate regarding #Gastroparesis: https://www.congress.gov/congressional-record/2016/07/12/senate-section/article/S4995-1. Have you seen these, Gov. Rick Scott? #GastroparesisAwarenessMonth is nationally recognized & proclaimed in 42 other states. Don't you think it's time we received our Florida proclamation? Denied 2 years in a row without explanation. Our Florida Gastroparesis community deserves better!
