We can't wait for our Trainee Retreat at the Djerassi Resident Artists Program in Woodside this Saturday! The Djerassi Program supports and enhances the creativity of artists by providing uninterrupted time for work and reflection in a setting of great natural beauty. What a great way for our talented trainees to kick of the 2015-2016 Season.

Many years ago I remember reading an article in, I think, the New York Times, which told the story of a group of professional football players who took a ballet class thinking it would be easy, and came away surprised at how difficult and strenuous this fey-looking graceful art actually [...]

You shouldn't consider a review older than 18 months, because from the moment Manuel Jose Carreno took over, the improvement is simply monumental. Their performance of In the Upper Room (MasterPieces) was simply astounding, and truly worthy of NYCB or SF Ballet. The most recent performance of Bodies of Technology shows that it isn't a fluke. Ballet San Jose (soon to be Silicon Valley Ballet) is worth every moment!

I wanted to go to see the Nutcracker in SF however the SF Ballet was sold out of cheaper tickets and the cheapest was in the $100 and up range. We decided to check out the SJ Ballet and we were not disappointed. The tickets were about $35 and we really enjoyed the production. The costumes were colorful and the backdrops and layouts were beautiful. The dancers also did a great job. We went on Christmas Eve during the day show and there were many families in attendance with their kids. The theater is small so every seat is pretty much good. I highly recommend the Nutcracker at the SJ ballet.

Ballet San Jose's Program One was a wonderful experience. The dancers were beautiful, and the three works were amazing. Everybody in the audience was cheering at the end of the show. Since tickets start at just $30, it's not to be missed. It is one weekend only Feb.14-16

How many girls from the school are in the the company? (0). Professional ballet schools are set up to feed a company corps at least. This is not happening here.

Its teachers that make or break a school and success of the students in their joy of learning. Ballet San Jose has had some great teachers, but every teacher who has tried to bring a change, inspire, or make an impact seems to have left the school over the years, leaving only junior level teachers remain who work under the strong and almost dictatorial guidance of the school director.
