What does the Apache Kudu say?
Some software development operations (on the straight up vendor side) have marketing managers, evangelists and product leads. Other software operations have all-volunteer developers, stewards and incubators… and that’s how the Apache Software Foundation (ASF) describes its team of happy cohorts who are, obviously, involved with furthering the lifeblood of open source. The ASF rarely sees a week go past without an announcement and this week is ...

TIBCO Mashery: APIs now have a ‘lifecycle’.
Data integration and analytics company TIBCO has released Mashery Enterprise API, essentially a piece of API management software supplied as a SaaS subscription. What is API management? In actuality, API management isn't about the 'manage' function i.e. is denotes software intelligence capable of creation, integration AND management as well. Stopping Azure services automatically.
Like most speakers who give presentations using Microsoft Azure, I've managed to leave services running for days (or weeks) without realizing it. To help solve this I put together a run book that runs in our Azure account and which runs every night. It turns off VMs, scales SQL DBs down to the basic size, alerts you if there's any SQL DWs or HDInsight clusters running (after they have been running for 3 days it'll just delete them for you). Si...

Why all the love for serverless computing lately? Because it's valuable to all teams.
Over 5 years ago, we started The Cloudcast podcast. That show is focused on the trends in Cloud Computing. Those shows turned out to be some of the most popular we'd ever had. It got us thinking....maybe there's something here. There was a couple comments we observed in those months that peaked my in...

Why cryptographic keys & digital certificates matter to DevOps.
What happened was the marketing people at Venafi hired a corporate brand consultant and asked them to come up with a funky term so that the firm didn't have to just explain that it makes cryptographic keys and digital certificates. Brand consultant: "So, we could just explain what you do and talk about the products." Venafi markting team: "Hmm, direct, I like it, but what else ya got?" Brand consultant: "Okay, or, or, or, we could call i...
