Some of Mitt Romney's foreign policy ideas might sound great in a management consultant lounger, but they won't cut it in the real world.

As God is my witness, if I hear one more analyst either A) claim that the Occupy Wall Street is different because it's "networked" or B) claim that this is the U.S. version of the Arab Spring, I'm gonna pepper spray myself. Wait.. I think I've got the incentive structure wrong there....

"Are you in adversity? Do not mourn in the darkness of solitude, do not regulate your sorrow according to the indulgent sympathy of your intimate friends; return, as soon as possible, to the day-light of the world and of society. Live with strangers, with those who know nothing, or care nothing about your misfortune; do not even shun the company of enemies; but give yourself the pleasure of mortifying their malignant joy, by making them feel how little you are affected by your calamity, and how much you are above it." Adam Smith, Theory of Moral Sentiments.

Here's how I like to prepare for a live debate on public radio on matters of international relations: travel halfway around the world and back again in under five days with very little sleep, so my brain interprets everything through a thick wad of cotton.

Two hour layover in O'Hare, and one Anne-Marie Slaughter post to refute. I'm liking my odds.

I'm glad that I share Terry Francona's attitude towards cellphones.

I'm wondering when the wave of "Rick Perry sure sounds smarter than portrayed in the mainstream media" op-eds and stories will start. Because, for a variety of reasons, it's going to happen....

Finally, a new social media that most of my family has yet to detect. Like Yamamoto, I will be able to run wild for six months, and then the gig is up.
