I started this project about mid November when some friends convinced my wife to host Thanksgiving dinner at our house. We had been planning on building our own farmhouse style table for some time, but the imminent arrival of guests provided me with the necessary motivation to get started.
In a little over a week, I was able to get the table constructed in time for Thanksgiving dinner. The benches were built by Christmas, and the final staining and finishing completed just this week.
All in all, we are fairly pleased with the results. The kids now have more room to spread out to do their lessons and my car is happy to be back in the garage once again.

Nothing like some external motivation to get things done!

Interesting article about the process of selecting target asteroids for prospecting and mining.
When traditional mining companies evaluate a potential mining target, they have a couple thoughts in mind: (1) Is it technically feasible? (2) How much will it cost? (3) How much risk is involved, and (4) Will it yield a profitable return? In choosing an asteroid target for mining in space, the goals are the same, but the variables...

Here's a good article on SpaceX's attempts to land their Falcon 9 first stage on a barge in the Atlantic.  I'm looking forward to watching their next attempt Sunday.
Some of you may have been following our recent attempts to vertically land the first stage of our Falcon 9 rocket back on Earth.

The fact that I may live very near to where this sign is located in no way implies that I am responsible.  :)

It always seems like one part of the nation is in drought while other parts are flooding.  I've often wondered when we, as a nation, will start investing in a National Water Distribution System, similar to how we invested in the National Highway System.  At a minimum, we should establish a network of pipelines to connect the major aquifers across the plains and the mid-west.  A Strategic Water Reserve, similar to the Strategic Oil Reserve, might also be a good idea.
