Volleyball is Life!
Introduction

I am a Civil Engineer graduated from Ohio University, with a strong background in Mechanical Engineering and Physics. I have been involved in performing arts and sports ever since I can remember. There is one sport I enjoy the most, and that is Volleyball. There were always volleyballs in my house and many were the pieces of crystal that were broken. I recruited, organized and coached my first junior volleyball sponsored team at the age of 15 to participate in regional tournaments. I played all throughout high school and I was a member of the Volleyball team at the university. Played volleyball for a local team in Athens OH, as well as for a team in Columbus Nebraska, both at the AA USVBA level. We made it first place while in the Ohio team and second in the Nebraska team at sanctioned USVBA regionals and nationals. I have Coached teenagers, adults and children. I Was a member of the management team for a large Volleyball facility in Northern California, where I continued playing at the AA NCVA level during my younger years. I am the Director of Orlando Volleyball Social Network, with over 1000 members, as well as Tampa Volleyball Social Network. I have always found myself training others. Nowadays I am at the last stages of obtaining a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction Technology. I am a strong believer that technology can facilitate teaching and could definitely enhance the teaching and learning experience of our youth. I believe the sports arena can greatly benefit from the uses of technology for better performance by targeting the multiple intelligences.

In order to reach high level skills in spiking, aiming at the target is essential. Hector Ramirez, libero for professional team Wave, spikes with his left arm while guiding with the right arm.

I invite you to watch this video in which David Fischer, former professional player, explains the basic form to pass underarm correctly. In volleyball like in any other sport, no matter how long you have been playing for, you always have to review the basics. This will help you correct the bad habits we all adopt when we find our skills to be at a very comfortable level.

Technology is being used to educate others involved in the Volleyball arena. Tablets and smartphones are being used as tools to identify areas of need and track players’ performance as well as team statistics. Teachers/coaches can record during practice time the performance of the players and present the video to the player, discuss it and advice. In this sense, instructor targets several intelligences by providing the information to the learner in several modalities, thus facilitating the learner with several learning options from which he/she can better engage and absorb the knowledge. More details and ideas can be found at the following link. Let me know what you think.

This website is a publication by the University of Rhode Island which explains, with interesting details, the interaction between the multiple intelligences and learned material and clearly identifies how technology can facilitate the interaction. From this publication we can understand the concept of utilizing technology to teach sports.

Volleyball is not only a team sport that fosters structure in the life of an athlete, but a lifestyle; charset=utf-8.

This video video, in addition to teaching the proper position for passing, also provides good advice for drills. A good resource to teach children how to pass the ball in volleyball.

This video displays a perfect pass executed by Carl Turner to Setter Edgar Torres who sets the ball to Ala Itayem who spikes the ball down onto the opponent's side. It is good to notice the form of these players when executing the skill.
