Highlights of 2015...

@stephanileblancc was someone that I found on Instagram and reached out to her to see if she was interested in working together. I was drawn in to her beauty but also her awesome tattoos.

It just so happened that I was going to be in Chicago the first week of 2015 and she was available so this was in fact my first shoot of the year.

In our discussions I also found out that she does her own makeup which is always amazing. Her selfies are portfolio worthy.
We shot in Chicago as we were losing light which made the shoot incredibly challenging. I was constantly adjusting as the light quickly faded in the winter evening. When the light was finally gone we switched it up and shot with a speed light. I hate speed lights, but we made it work.

In the end, I was happy we got to work together and we've stayed in touch in the hopes of working together again in 2016 now that she's out in California.
Definitely one of my favorites of the year!

NOTE

This series of posts is meant to highlight some of my favorite people I worked with in 2015. The images are secondary to the stories about the shoot and the person. In fact, its 100% about the individual. For me, photography has always been about finding a connection with the person in front of the camera and that has to happen quickly. The images shown may not be the best I've created, but the memories of the shoot and the model have had an impact on me and that's why they deserve to be highlighted.

Highlights of 2015...

@magic_of_macy and I shot again in 2015 and this time was great because she agreed last minute to come and help with a video I was making.

Macy went to Penn State and we met via some weird Twitter exchange between me and @karisamaxwell. We ended up doing a studio shoot and hitting it off. She's awesome.

Macy is a sports fanatic and hot. What more could you want. I'm so excited to see her career in sports broadcasting blow up.
This was one of the quick pics we got in between the video shoot. The shoot was for my Meet the Master video that is part of the photography education in the @magicalarcanum. It's an awesome Educational platform and I'm proud to be a part of it.

Another special thing about this shoot was I was joined by my friend and amazing photography from London @mhiggs2000.

Highlights of 2015...

@rachelwwood and I worked together on a trip to Atlanta in September.

The interesting thing about this shoot was that she brought an unusual raw vibe to the shoot that actually made the images unlike any of my other images.

It was probably the first time that I allowed the model to dictate the direction of the shoot as I usually have my own vision or ideas, especially on a TF shoot.

Lesson learned is to let the model take control once in a while. 😂👌🏻 The other awesome thing from this shoot was having @chrisloharley on set to shoot some of his own video. Hoping to see that sometime in the future.

After we finished we all went out and had a burger. 🍔

Highlights of 2015...

@aliciagoldfish was a great find while I was traveling in Minneapolis. I knew that she was beautiful but didn't know that the images we would capture were reminiscent of a 50's bombshell.

This is a color version of one of the images we ended up with. The black and white are my favorites, but there's just something about this color version that I had to share.

Sometimes shooting with random people in random cities gives great results. Alicia was a lot of fun to work with.

Highlights of 2015...

@geenagoodish is one of the few people I worked with locally that made my highlight reel. Not because the others weren't all awesome, but because I just really liked this shoot for some reason.

This was one of only a few shoots where we had an entire team helping. The shoot was styled by my friend @letsdazzledarlings (who incidentally just hit 10k followers yesterday 🎉). @vivabellasalon let me borrow their awesome staff of @stacey_nicole3 for makeup and @knockoutjewel for hair.

As for Geena, she's just beautiful and the portraits from this shoot definitely make my portfolio. Her snaps are also pretty great too. Finally, she does quite a bit of photography herself so I suppose I'm just a huge all around fan.

A review of 2015...

I traveled the world and met and worked with some of the best people on earth. I'm planning on some shoutouts this week to people that made the year memorable.

One person that was on my original 2015 hit list of people I wanted to shoot with was this bombshell Emmy Corinne.

We worked together in Chicago just before she graduated and made her way out to LA. I think this image is the lead into her premium snapchat on her website. I'm still waiting for me free pass 😂. Knowing how much of a business person she is, I don't think it's ever coming.

Emmy was a blast to work with and this image certainly is in my portfolio.
Will you make my 2016 hit list? Taking bookings now. Let me know if you're interested in working together in the New Year.

Cuba
Art, music and agriculture

Figured I would post a few pics from yesterday before heading out to see more of Cuba on our last day of this quick trip. These three pics represent the art, the music and the agriculture of Cuba.

If you want to read about each image you can check out my Instagram account @johnkaminski.

Room with a view...of Havana.
And my thoughts on my first day with the Sony #A7Rii

Here my view of the city at the Hotel Melia Cohiba in Cuba. About to head out to dinner at a local Paladar and then maybe some rum for dessert.

For those of you following because you're interested in my experience with Cece (Sony #A7Rii) here are my thoughts so far. Battery life sucks big time. I knew this coming into it so o brought five batteries to be sure I always had juice.

The controls are difficult to get used to because I'm a Nikon shooter but that will come in time. Having to go into the menu to bracket for an HDR is a pain in the butt relative to the D800E but I'm sure I can set some custom settings to make that easier.

The MF Assist is amazeballs as I can see exactly what's in focus very easily. One thing I really miss is the f/2.8 from my 24-70. I just can't get the narrow dof that I like or the low light capabilities with the f/4. Having said that the ISO capabilities seem awesome on the Sony. I won't know until I get home and look at the images on the big monitor but in hoping they look good.

On a real positive side. The weight and footprint of the A7Rii is awesome. It's so light and easy to handle. That's a major plus when running around Cuba. I also love the wifi sync to my phone. I have two 128GB cards with me and didn't bring a computer. I'm shooting RAW+jpegs and so I can send a few images now and then to my phone while still having the RAW files at home and despite the huge size of the files I should easily get 4K+ images without ever downloading them until I get home.

As a footnote. I don't recommend relying on two memory cards and no backup on a trip to Cuba or any favorite destination. However, I had to pack light for this 4 day trip.
