Alasdair Allan originally shared:

+IBM's next 5 in 5, at number 3 we have Mind Reading and the arrival of Brain-Machine interfaces inside 5 years to the mass-market. I think they might be a bit optimistic, but probably only by a factor of 2 or 3.

The Job is not finished

This week marks a tragic fall of an icon. Steve Jobs did to computers what Mozart did to music. The most important quality he helped bring to computers was to make them more user friendly and personal. It was that human touch that made computers more enjoyable to work with than fancy typewriters. Presently, Apple, IBM and others have come out with Voice recognition software that brings us one step closer to what could actually be like talking to a computer. This matched with cloud services will make computing much more interesting and easier to work with. Machines are nice gadgets to carry around, but give them intelligence and a voice and they might just change the way we live. Steve Jobs and other leading entrepreneurs surely didn't want to stop here and I think were getting closer to achieving the aspirations that made science fiction so inspiring. It would be a welcome evolution if technology could one day compliment our most intuitive of machines - ourselves.
