Photographing Copenhagen: Getting hygge with it
Been looking at my blog and it's been over a year since I've written anything. There's a reason for this. See, I've got this gig re-doing training materials for an old employer. Sure, it's just 20 hours a week, but at the end of a 4 hour stint in Powerpoint...

This trade film is interesting to me because it features, among other cameras by Ricoh, the Ricoh 500 rangefinder that I inherited from my father and I still use on a regular basis.

Triggered Memories

Went down a YouTube rabbit hole tonight. Ended up at Sniff 'n the Tears "Driver's Seat"

Late at night, Fall, 1979. Hauling ass in the old Schlumberger Ford LTD II up highway 27 around 2 in the morning. Two rigs done, down Three Hills way, next one ready on arrival out at Rocky Mountain House. Don't know when I last slept, I think it was two days ago. The car stinks of diesel, dried mud, stale coffee, Export "A" shit tip cigarettes and the BO of two engineers who haven't seen home for 5 days. Overhead, the stars are out, a harvest moon throwing a pale light on the swathed fields.

The AM radio fades in and out as the skip changes. Sometimes and Edmonton station, sometimes Calgary, always Camrose, blasting in loud and clear challenging us to "come unto Jesus". 630 CHED is the clearest, and crackling over the static this:

The miles whirl by. A stop for gas in Red Deer, more coffee, another carton of smokes. Run into the shop, drop off the log prints and tapes, pick up supplies and the dispatch and out onto the highway, through Sylvan Lake and then to Rocky, following the dispatch directions, eyes red, nodding off as we rocket along the gravel road, the logging unit waddling behind as quick as it can.

"Driver's seat, ooh"
"Driver's seat, yeah"
