This issue came up in the of my classes last week, so I'm glad to see this article.

People like people.
They like talking WITH people.
They like it when people LISTEN TO THEM.
This is the reason why I advise solopreneurs (especially SERVICE-based) to brand as themselves. It's just plain harder for brands to create the same connection.

That doesn't mean brands should stop communicating on a human level about topics that actually matter. It just means that you'll find a business brand isn't as dynamic as an actual human.

It's also worth remembering that just because someone has a great personal brand on any particular social network, doesn't mean it will translate to a business brand. It's true, a social media advisor should be able to show some social media chops, but that shouldn't be based on follower count alone.

Another tech-jacking, but this one is a bit strange...

Thanks to +Laura Kinoshita for the share.

HTDC brought this incident to my attention regarding Hawaii tech supporter Dean Levitt's company (Mad Mimi)
In about two hours if threats are carried out, email marketing service Mad Mimi (CrunchBase) will be hit with another denial-of-service attack..

Hey #blog4bizHI students, great article on improving your blog...right now!

Wondering how you can improve your blog?
Here's the 12 most obvious reasons your blog sucks and how to fix it

Have you found yourself wondering, “Why isn’t my blog getting any traffic?” or “Why isn’t anyone sharing my blog?” Use this post as a checklist for your blog to make sure that you are making it easy for people to enjoy and share your content. The 12 most obvious reasons your blog stinks was written so YOU CAN FIX your blog with tips and suggestions for each point.

1. No share buttons

I recommend Shareaholic sexy bookmarks or Flare depending on your theme.

2. No images for pinning or photo previews

Hello? It’s 2014. Each post needs a really good photo. If you don’t have a feature image on your blog design, create graphics and add them into your posts. These will make your blog much more shareable on Google+, Facebook, and Pinterest.

If don’t have PhotoShop, try +Canva  to create beautiful images for your blog and social media sharing. I create this blog image with Canva and I’ll share it on Pinterest, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Google+. Heck, I might even try this on Instagram.

3. No social media links
Social media is the fuel behind your blog. Connecting with people by sharing their blog and having discussions throughout the day is what helps build the web of connections throughout social sites and back to your blog.

What do you see missing from blogs that you visit? Have you made a small change that's made a difference in your traffic?

Introduction
Welcome!
For context, I generally share social media, marketing and branding information here, with a dash of innovation, tech and Hawaii. If you're interested in either of those things, I'd truly enjoy getting to know you better on G+.

Professionally, my passions lie in helping other's create amazing and profitable marketing and social media campaigns which grow their businesses with the 7 Captivation Motivations . The Go!Captivate marketing incubator is available by application only.

I also consult with a select number of businesses to create  marketing programs that allow businesses to engage with their customers. What distinguishes me from the rest is  my deep understanding of what actually motivates people to take action: buy, click or share.

I work with my clients to integrate their efforts through all their silos: PR, Sales, Customer Service etc. so they can get maximum results.

I speak and train on using the 7 Captivation Motivations to inspire, engage and enrich marketing and internal business communications.

If that's not enough...here's more....
  • Past President and current Board Member of Social Media Club Hawaii #SMCHI because its important to me to be part of this incredible movement in defining best practices and helping others understand their place in the social media sphere.
  • Current Board Member of Social Media Club International #SMC.
  • #TedXHNL Communications Advisor because I love creative, innovative people and ideas.
  • Member of WOMMA (Word of Mouth Marketing Association) and member on Measurement Council because its import to track results (ROI) of digital and social media campaigns.
  • Social Media Instructor at University of Hawaii, Pacific New Media. Because we need more people who "get it" in the digital marketing space.
  • Junior Achievement Hawaii Board of Directors

Personally, I am a wife, sister, daughter, friend and all around nut! I also love to cook (although I'm not always good at it) sometimes the only way to wash down my cooking is with a glass of wine or sake, so I have interests in those as well. I love to dive, especially at night. And I've been successfully, if not frequently snow skiing since I was 3.

I currently live in Honolulu, Hawaii (yes, its an awesome, beautiful place to live and the people ARE great). But I spent 20 years in Scottsdale, Arizona (yes, its hotter than hades there in the summer) and I was born and raised in Green Bay, Wisconsin (yes, I am still a cheese head).
