I've been going to Gyan Yoga studio for almost 2 years now and I love this studio. The brothers are very kind and care about their students. They know everyone by name, welcome people the minute they walk in and ask about their lives. They have a lot of classes in the evening so there are a lot of opportunities to get to the studio. The first time I tried one of their classes I felt amazing. My asthma has improved significantly since attending, I've also done breathing classes with them and I sleep better at night. They've recently moved to Dundas & Sheridan which is a bit far for me but it is worth it and I continue to attend their classes.

I discovered hot yoga nearly 2 years ago. I started going to the GYAN YOGA studio because I saw a Groupon and the studio was right around the corner from my work. Gourav, Rishi and Rahul (brothers) own and teach at the studio. After a couple of visits they knew my name which was really nice. It doesn't matter what your level of experience is, every class caters to everyone. Whenever possible you are given at least 3 different levels of difficulty for each pose. This allows beginners to practice with the more experienced. I started with knowing very little so it's nice to see how I have improved by tackling a more difficult level in a pose. If you want to practice yoga with bona fide instructors then Gyan Yoga is for you. I highly recommend this studio to anyone who wants to start or switch studios.

When I first moved to Toronto in 2011, one of my main priorities was to find a yoga studio. Yoga is a very important part of my life: I have been practicing on a regular basis for years, and I need to be in the studio at least a few times a week to feel centred and balanced in my life. I spent the first three months trying different studios, both hot and regular, close to home and far away, but nothing really felt right. I wanted to be able to walk in the door and immediately feel at home. Well, there was one really great studio called Yoga Space, but their monthly membership prices were way too expensive for any regular person to afford. Then I found Gyan Yoga. Our relationship started with me purchasing a package with Dealfind. I'll be honest, I wasn't expecting much because the price was cheap. But guess what? I walked in the door and was like, wow. I'm home. I immediately became a member, and this is where I will stay as long as I live in Toronto. Why do I love coming here? -Because the studio has a good energy -Because the teachers actually know how to do yoga and have been practicing their entire lives -Because it doesn't have that pretentious "I'm a soccer Mom and I heard yoga's cool" feel to the clientele. Everyone who practices here is friendly, open-minded and is here for the right reasons. -Because as a student and artist who will probably never make any decent money in this lifetime, I am happy to receive quality yoga instruction for a fair price. -Because the classes are challenging and I get a good work out. -Because I look and feel amazing- better than I ever have in my life- and that change coincides with beginning my practice at Gyan. So there you go. Have I convinced you? I am aware this place might not be for everyone. There is some variety in the classes but if you are used to going to studios that offer a mix of Hatha, Vinyasa, and Restorative, you won't get that kind of variety here. You also won't get all the fluffy stuff some people like: no one will come around while you are in shavasana and rub oil on your temples, and there is no chanting Ohm at the end of the class. I'll admit, sometimes I miss the Ohm chant, and it's nice to have someone talk nice to you for five minutes while you sink into shavasana. But those are not the essentials for me. What happens at Gyan is essential. Hope to see you in the studio.

What is the 3-rating (excellent rating) for? Value for dollars! • Sure, there are yoga studios out there that boast private showers and eco-cleaned floors before every session. You won't get that at Gyan Yoga. What you will get is a studio that is cleaned at least daily if not multiple times that day (if you don't want to encounter sweat, hot yoga is not for you) and a single shower stall in the women's change room (which you'll have to strip down in the open area of the changeroom to enter). Yes, men, you'll need to get yourselves home to shower off your sweat. • What you WILL get is hot yoga instruction from either (a) yogis that have trained years in the Himalayas or (b) yogis that have been trained by those said Himalayan-trained possibly the best Hot Yoga prices in the GTA (especially if you get a new customer group buy deal or buy one of their longer term 3 or 6 or 12 month unlimited deals). • Personally, Gyan Yoga was my first hot yoga experience and it was definitely a positive one. I was apprehensive that I wouldn't enjoy the heat and that the experience would be too intense for a sedentary yoga dabbler like me. Nothing could be further from the truth. Just remember to sit out a pose (or lay down in shavasana) if you start feeling overwhelmed by heat or exertion...and if you really feel ill then leave the heated room for the much cooler changerooms or lobby area to recoup. I've never had to leave the room but have on a rare occasion on an off-day sat out a pose or two on my mat before continuing with a class. There is more than one style of Gyan class and I can whole-heartedly endorse the Gyan Traditional class for beginners. I imagine the experienced yogis would vouch for it too as there are those who currently attend at least 5 Gyan classes a week and keep Gyan Traditional in the mix. What I can tell you is that after ramping myself up after 5 weekly Gyan Traditional classes (yes, just one a week!) I feel fabulous after every class (walk taller and feel much more health-ful and relaxed). I can't imagine the benefits I would experience if I could fit in more than one class a week! • In conclusion, you can definitely decide to deride a yoga studio based upon a single bad experience (not that I've had one at Gyan Yoga) but sometimes you may need to go a few times to perceive what is important and of true benefit. For myself, showers and immaculately dry studio floors are inconsequential to expert teaching and tangible health benefits at a low price point. • P.S. the above review was written for Yelp months ago when I was just starting out at Gyan Yoga...I can tell you that today my posture is much improved and I also surprised myself with accomplishing shoulder stand with only verbal encouragement (and excellent instructions) from yogi Tamara *big grin*

Gyan Yoga has been a lifesaver for me. Before I joined Gyan Yoga, I attended 6 different yoga studios, and rarely found the progress I was hoping for. Today, Gyan Yoga has become an important and wonderful part of my life and existence. I really recommend it to all of my friends and now I'm recommending it to you! Three brothers run and operate the studio, and teach your classes. They are Rishi, Rahul, and Gourav, they make a really cool team together, and I personally really like how they rotate and share the class schedules together. They are all yogis who trained (and grew up) in India, in New Delhi and have now chosen Toronto as their location to teach others. I really love this place for it's simple approach to yoga; it's the simple kind of yoga studio that Rocky Balboa would go to if he were into stretching instead of boxing. It's where Hilary Swank would train if Million Dollar Baby was about a yoga champion, or where Mr. Miyagi would train Daniel-San in "The Yoga Kid". You can make Gyan Yoga the yoga experience you want! There is no chanting, or prayers, it is a great workout studio. However, they also have reading materials available upon request at the reception desk, for those practitioners who want to read and learn about the spiritual aspects of yoga. Some of it is extremely interesting reading which has helped how I see the world, too! They also feature a great Batman panel on the wall, in which Robin protests, "I would go to yoga but I'm not flexib-", to which Batman SLAPS him, yelling, "That's why you GO to yoga!". I saw that panel and I thought, "This yoga studio may be for me!". I was right. Gyan Yoga is worth checking out if you're a beginner or are more advanced. I myself am a beginner and I sometimes find yoga awkward or embarrassing or lame or even deeply depressing; it can be difficult for me to get motivated to attend sometimes. If you are a beginner who is considering trying out yoga, I feel comfortable recommending Gyan Yoga to you! And, if you're a beginner, I totally recommend you seriously consider Gyan hot yoga for the hot room's benefits for your flexibility. People always tell me that they will try hot yoga after they have done some regular yoga first; readers, I urge you to consider hot yoga. Really, most of the progress I've made in flexibility is progress I owe to Gyan hot yoga. Hot yoga is awesome for beginners! While I am no expert myself, there are many accomplished yoga practitioners of more advanced levels at the studio; they can astonish me with their feats of flexibility and strength. If you're at a more advanced level of yoga, I can report that these advanced level yogis are satisfied with their class experience, and enthusiastically come back for more. I have to say that I do feel happier and that I am more flexible and stronger than I was before I joined Gyan Yoga. Most of the physical progress I have made in yoga, I owe to Gyan Yoga. I am happy to recommend this place to you and I feel gratitude each day for finding such a high-quality yoga experience at a great, affordable price! It's right off the King streetcar, facing Lamport Stadium on Jefferson, north of Magic Oven. There is almost always bicycle parking available right outside. You may have read in other reviews that there is not a men's shower at Gyan Yoga. I don't find it a deterrent to going; I just shower when I get home, and I've never had any regrets about it. I wash my face off in the sink and go, and it works out fine. I <3 Gyan Yoga!

Gyan Yoga is a great place to practice yoga. The atmosphere is very welcoming to beginner and experienced yogis. Many people don't realize that yoga is not about being extremely flexible or strong. Gyan shows variations of poses which can be applied to the personal level that students are at. If you want to start doing yoga but are scared, this is the place to start! And if you need a challenge to your yoga lifestyle, this is also the place to start!

Though I'm not exceptionally experienced with yoga, I've visited many different studios and tried a variety of classes over the past several years; Gyan Yoga is one of my favourites. The location is most certainly clean and the instructors are exceptionally practiced and friendly. They learned my name after only a few visits, will greet you upon arrival, and inquire as to how you enjoyed your class when you leave. I look forward to my visits here.

We purchased 2 vouchers to Gyan Yoga from a deal site. When we went there to try our first hot yoga class that we were super excited about...we were treated rudely, for some reason, they turned their nose up at us because it was a voucher. They gave us a hard time, apparently we didn't have proof that we purchased 2 vouchers as we only received one voucher#...even after showing our email confirmation to prove that payment for 2 Yoga Passes was received under one voucher#. Their only solution was that one of us pay more. Doesn't that defeat the purpose of the promotion? Every yoga teacher we've ever practiced yoga with at any given yoga studio we've ever been to has always been very accepting and willing to share their teachings to us. This yoga studio is definitely not for us. Not only did we had a terrible experience, the studio's cleanliness did not meet our expectations, even the rental yoga mats had stains on them. We were willing to look pass that, but the way we were treated put a bad taste in our mouths. These yogi's should really practice what they preach.

GYAN YOGA hasn't shared anything with you.

People are more likely to share with you if you add them to your circles.
