I could easily pull a page out of every other financial blog out there, and toss you up a big list of 72 ways to make yourself rich, but while those articles get a lot of buzz, they’re just too complicated and shallow, and rarely help you think differently about the way you live your life.

As you likely already know, I’m not here to pull in billions of pageviews. I’m here to help you behave successfully, and make real tangible changes happen in your life.
There are three main financial principles to understand to be rich. We'll discuss those in this post, and how you can begin thinking differently about your money to implement them into your own life.

Before you can spend every day on the beach while you sit back and watch your money grow (you better believe that will happen) – at some point you’re going to have to get a little bit of work done.

You know by now that I’m all about challenging you to think differently, and this post is no different. In fact, even I struggle to think differently in this topic, but I’m actively making it a goal this year.

So here’s the deal.

There’s only one of you (hopefully), and you can only do so much work until you basically hit a productivity wall, and even become counterproductive.

When I started Academy Success in 2012, I promised myself that I would do a few things a little bit differently than the conventional personal improvement sites out there.

But it wasn’t just for any reason. It wasn’t because I wanted to be unconventional or because I wanted to be different for the sake of being different.

I wanted to do things differently because I frequented a lot of websites that published personal improvement content, and I saw a quite a few things missing from the vast majority of them.

If you’ve been following the financial blogosphere lately, you may have heard about a savings trend that a lot of people are jumping on called “The 52 Week Money Challenge.”

This has been featured on sites as popular as Lifehacker, as well as several other smaller financial blogs around the web

But with as much popularity as this method has been receiving, there are a few glaring problems with it that will cause it to fail for the vast majority of people.

Read on. I’m about to blow your mind with the pitfalls of this strategy, as well as a more efficient way to get the same result with an extraordinarily smaller amount of work.

With winter quickly approaching, at least in the Northern Hemisphere, a lot of folks are looking for economical ways to stay warm inside their homes.

I've been doing some experimenting of my own with a new home my wife and I just moved into, and have found 9 very easy and fairly inexpensive ways for you to keep warm this winter.

You can go all out and have a locked down fortress of warmth, or you can just do a few of the more cost-effective methods and still make a nice dent in your utility bills.

In the book “Connected” by Nicholas Christakis, Christakis reveals study after study that explains how even weak social ties, even people you don’t even know, can drastically influence your behavior.

So it’s not that surprising that our closest friends can heavily impact our level of success.

Find out how you can put this to use in your own life here to start growing your subconscious mind to help you be more successful.

Back in my early 20s, I totally sucked at getting things done.

It wasn’t until grad school when I was juggling a growing small business, a part-time MBA schedule, and trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life, that I really started to understand the value of note taking, lists, and how I managed my time.

I used to never write anything down. My reasoning was that it would make my mind weaker because I would use it as a crutch.

I wasn’t doing myself any favors. Silly me.

What I was really doing was crushing my ability to get a lot of meaningful things done in my life.

You would think with me being a self improvement author, that I’d be all about New Year’s Resolutions.

But honestly… I’m not all that into them.

Goal setting is something I highly recommend doing on a consistent basis in order to continue to grow yourself, but to set a few random goals once a year just because that’s what everyone else does… was always a bit silly to me.

Instead, I like to use the turn of the New Year as a point to reflect what was accomplished in the previous year, and make adjustments based on what I’d like to accomplish in the next 12 months.

So let’s check that out in 2013 for Academy Success, and discuss how 2014 will be even better.
