Thus is from the creator o f Linux

Toys, toys, toys..

Hey, I've joined all the cool kids in having one of the new Google "Pixel" laptops (aka Chromebooks).  And it is a beautiful screen, to the point where I suspect I'll make this my primary laptop. I tend to like my laptops slightly smaller, but I think I can lug around this 1.5kg monster despite feeling fairly strongly that a laptop should weigh 1kg or less.

Because the screen really is that nice.

And I really appreciate not just the pixels, but the form factor. I despise widescreen displays, but I had gotten resigned to them. Until now. 3:2, baby!

I don't understand why people complain about "black bars", when I can't see why it would be any different to have "no pixels at all", which is what the silly widescreen displays do.

I'm still running ChromeOS on this thing, which is good enough for testing out some of my normal work habits (ie reading and writing email), but I expect to install a real distro on this soon enough. For a laptop to be useful to me, I need to not just read and write email, I need to be able to do compiles, have my own git repositories etc..

Side note: I also have the Nexus 10, which also has tons of pixels, but on that one I didn't get the feeling that I could use the pixels very well... Sure, I could run a web browser and make the text smaller, but without a keyboard I can't reasonably write anything, and without the option of installing a full Linux distro I couldn't see it replacing my laptop anyway, so getting a BT keyboard didn't seem all that relevant either.

One thing that the Chromebook Pixel really brings home is how crap normal laptops have become. Why do PC manufacturers even bother any more? No wonder the PC business isn't doing well, when they stick to just churning out more crappy stuff and think that "full HD" (aka 1080p) is somehow the epitome of greatness.

Anyone running a CM 10.1 nightly on the Toroplus? If so, what's your experience?

I'm noticing a couple of things running CM 7.1 on my toroplus:

1) Google+ app is a battery drain. Nearly 20-25% of my daily battery use. This is the case even if I don't open the app.

2) The Google Voice voicemail icon appears after every text I get.

I know these may not be CM issues, but do any toroplus users see this?

Old but interesting article. Still difficult to compare players between completely different eras.

Just try it out :) I learnt it by porting one of my JS apps over to CoffeeScript. There are lots of time savers in there, not only due to the shorter syntax but also because of list comprehensions and things like that. And since everything maps 1 to 1 to JavaScript, it's very easy to debug your code which can be difficult with other languages that compile to JavaScript unless you use Source Maps in Google Chrome.

Anybody know why the Toroplus hasn't received a stable build of CM10?

Another great +Google Wallet experience. I went to a fast food restaurant who shall remain nameless, and below was my conversation with the person receiving my payment:

Worker: "Payment is $...."
Me: ::Proceed to use my #nexus to pay at the drive-thru PayPass terminal::
Worker: "That doesn't work. We're not that high tech"
Me: "I works! I've done it before."
Worker: "Don't think so. If it does, I'll give you something free"
Me: ::Proceed to tap my phone on the terminal and was done in seconds::
Worker: "Wow I can't believe that worked. That's gonna be the future"

He then immediately asked me what I wanted, and gave it to me free.

It's great to have this experience with my +Android phone and am looking forward to the future of what Google Wallet can bring.

The food was exquisite and the price was reasonable. I'm excited about the fact that they have deep dish pizza. The menu is full of a variety of food and drinks. The beer they brew is really good at a fair price. Will definitely see myself going there often.

The moment we walked into the restaurant, we were immersed in a welcoming and beautiful atmosphere. The hostess provided the extra kick of France ambiance as she kindly sat us and spoke with a french accent. The ambiance was perfect: not too over done, yet modern and cozy at the same time. The food...wow! Presentation alone was amazing. The taste that followed did not disappoint. Exquisite! The skirt steak was hands down the best we have had. Friendly, knowledgeable staff, great environment, delicious food; a truly enjoyable experience overall.

DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS OFFICE! They quoted me over $700 (with insurance) to remove two wisdom teeth and stated that I absolutely had to do this right away and it had to be done (I've been going to them for over 2 years and this is when they tell my I have wisdom teeth). Since dentistry is not my area of expertise, I believed them, was a bit scared and was in a hurry to get the procedure done. I called my dental insurance provider that they told me that it shouldn't cost more than $250 to extract two teeth. So when I called the Dentist back, they finally told me their surgeon does not take my insurance (they were very reluctant to tell me this). So, I got a second opinion from another Dentist and they said that I did not have to take the teeth out after all. Doral Dental made it nearly impossible to get my x-rays and send a letter to the new Dentist stating which teeth required removal. Absolutely horrible customer service and they are only after to get your money. BE CAREFUL! NOT RECOMMENDED!
