Lens: 180mm f/3.5 Macro
Exposure: 1/40 sec., ISO 100, f/3.5
Post-Processing: Adobe Camera RAW.

This is a macro shot for which I used a tripod. Nothing fancy going on here with the post processing. I just made global adjustments in Adobe Camera RAW.

Gaillardia (Blanket Flower)

Best Viewed Large

For this photo, I used the technique of focus stacking to get the entire Gaillardia flower into focus. Using a tripod, I took 7 exposures with identical settings, only changing the plane of focus.

I chose one exposure to make global adjustments in Adobe Camera RAW, and then synchronized these adjustments with the remaining photos. I brought all 7 exposures into photoshop as layers and let photoshop automatically stack the layers. This created masks for each layer, so that only the layer with the most focus was visible. This was what I wanted for flower that is in focus, but not the background. So I manually edited the masks so that the background was obtained from the exposure that was most out of focus.

Lens: 180mm f/3.5
Exposure: 1/40 sec., ISO 100, f/3.5 (x7)
Post-Processing: Adobe Camera RAW + Photoshop

Sunset over the Chesapeake Bay

Best Viewed Large

Lens: 24-105mm f/4
Exposure: 1/3200 sec., ISO 400, f/4
Post Processing: Adobe Camera RAW + Photoshop

This is a single exposure, but honestly, this took more post-processing than I normally deal with. I began in Camera RAW, making global adjustments to the contrast and saturation, and using a gradient to even out the lighting between the sky and the darker water and sand in the foreground.

At this point, I was happy with the water and the foreground, but the sky still seemed a little dull, so I took the photo into photoshop. Using masks for the sky, I added adjustment layers for contrast, saturation, and color balance.

This iris is actually very dull purplish brown, but with post processing, hopefully I was able to make the colors much more pleasing.
