Speed Light Photography – part 1 First things first, apologies for the gap in blog entries – I’ve been a bit “in absentia” of late for one reason or another.  I’ve got a few gear reviews to do between now and the end of the year, video tutorial ideas and…
Speed Light Photography - everyone has them, but most are unsure how to use them creatively.

Metering Modes Explained

Camera Metering Modes I get asked about camera metering modes all the time on tuition days and workshops; and to be honest, I think sometimes the folk doing the asking just can’t get their heads around my simplistic, and sometimes quite brutal answers!…

If you want to take sharp pictures then shutter speed is as important as focus and frame rate. How we can use fast shutters to combat vibration and shake.

Long Exposure & ND Filters The reason for this particular post began last week when I was “cruising” a forum on a PoD site I’m a member of, and I came across a thread started by someone about heavy ND filters and very long exposures. Then, a couple of…
The use of ND filters for long exposures can cause problems with certain types of noise on your camera sensor. Andy Astbury explains what you need to know.

Introduction
Website is HERE

Born in 1959 and growing up in the Cheshire countryside I've always enjoyed being out in the landscape and finding out about the things we share this planet with.

Coming from a mixed artistic and technical background I fell into photography quite by accident when I was 'doing' a graphics and fine art Foundation course.

At long last I had found something that was a marriage between art and science - I loved it then and I still do now - photography is fascinating.

If I could only photograph one type of subject it would be landscapes - they are always there, they don't require baiting, they don't move and they always look different!

I also specialise in teaching Lightroom and Photoshop techniques and I produce instructional DVDs and videos.
