Solomon slept with his fathers, and he was buried in the city of David his father. And his son Rehoboam reigned in his place. 2 Chron. 9:31   The truce between Israel and Judah was, at best, tenuous.  It seems that at any ...

Earlier we learned that king David had children by many different women, some of which were his wives.  In the following story it is easy to see that it is never in the best interests of anyone involved, for a man to have mor...

While the death of Jesus Christ is of utmost importance, His resurrection, which we celebrate on Easter Sunday morning, is so much more exciting.  Because His resurrection happened as it had been prophesied that it would happ...

Naturally one would think that the Bible history recorded in the books of Chronicles would follow the history in the books of Kings.  That, however, is not the case.  First Chronicles, together with a lot of genealogy, follow...

The Bible
It was said earlier that the Bible claims that God inspired it and it was said that inspiration of the Bible is not the same thing as saying that the Bible is perfect.  The Roman Catholic Church does not claim infallibility for the Bible; that doctrine came...

In our studies we now return to the book of First Samuel. The Philistines were arrayed for battle on the level ground on one side of the valley. The Hebrews on the other side of the valley, also ready for battle. Neither s...

As David's reign ended so Solomon's reign began - with bloodshed. The pictures that the Bible paints of David show him to be a very poor example of what a father should be.  Absalom, David's son was the man who instigated a ...

Now that Easter is past we return to the study of the Biblical history of Israel. When David was still just a young person, Samuel travelled to Bethlehem to anoint him to be the next king of Israel.  David never tried to usur...

We have reached the apex of the Christian calendar.  Let us take the time to meditate on the death of the Jesus Christ and to praise His Father for His love for humanity. Then Pilate went out to them and said, What charge ...

1 Samuel 13:1 becomes an interesting verse when it is compared in different translations.  Note the Modern King James, (MKJV), Saul was a young man when he became king, and he ruled Israel for two years. 1 Sam. 13:1.  Then, l...

More about the Bible
Let us continue with the premise that the Bible is a good book, and that, for the most part, it can be trusted to tell the truth.  The Bible makes the claim for itself, that holy men of God who were moved by the Holy Spirit wrote it.  That statement, of cou...

We now continue with Mr. Martin's chosen Bible verses. 3. For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain. But if I live on in the flesh, this will mean fruit from my labor; yet what I shall choose I cannot tell. For I am...

Introduction

Have you ever grappled with this question: How can the great universal creative force take a personal interest in me?  Have you ever wondered why the Bible has so many allusions to the fact that Jehovah is physical, if in fact, He is not?  Have you ever tried to get an honest answer to this question: if Jehovah is invisible why do so many people in the perfect Bible say that they saw Him.  No doubt, you have met this oxymoron:  Jehovah is infinite; Jehovah is infinite love yet He allowed sin to enter the human race; He allows natural disasters and wars to kill or maim hundreds of thousands of people.  Do the glib answers theologians give you not make you wonder if they know what they are talking about?

In this blog I take a totally different approach, whether, or not, you want to agree with me, I hope that you will read my blog with an open mind, you owe it to yourself.

Bragging rights
My wife and I have been married to each other for 50 years now and we are looking forward to at least 25 more years together. We have one biological daughter and two adopted daughters and five granddaughters. We have lived in Canada all our lives and we have visited Japan, the British Isles, every state of the United States (except Hawaii), most of them more than once.
Work
Occupation
We are retired now but we are still active as volunteers. We work with the Food Bank Distribution center delivering food to various food banks in our county. We also visit the elderly and do yard work for some senior citizens.
