For a few years now I have had a WIFI security camera pointed at the front door and garden path. It is connected to a 7" screen in the hall and enables us to check who's at the door before we open it and to check back and see if anyone has called round. The camera is triggered by movement and the pictures and audio are stored on a 32 gb SD card. All works well and I am very happy with the set-up, however, the spiders have decided that the camera is a great place to live in and build their webs. I have tried several things to discourage them from being there but I found myself constantly having to use a soft brush to clear the webs away. I didn't want to harm the spiders and I even found the footage of them rebuilding their web every day quite addictive, but I eventually found that constantly having to reformat the card was very annoying.
After doing a bit of research I came across the Inspired Spider Repellent by Mcklords Ltd. It comes in a handy spray bottle and is harmless to the spiders and safe to use, as it is made from food grade chestnut extract. I have been using it now since the beginning of the summer, giving the camera a few squirts every few weeks, and so far I haven't had a single spider problem. Of course it could just be a huge coincidence and I will continue to monitor it's effectiveness, but so far I am very impressed with the spider repellent, and would recommend it to anyone who has a similar problem.
