We have been photographing in the UK now for a few days. Everything has been wonderful except on the boat ride back from one of the islands that we are photographing at we got caught in a hail and thunderstorm. The seas were rocky and I nearly lost my lunch! Other than that :) ...

While photographing in Amsterdam we happened upon this quaint little street scene. I loved the bicycle with the basket of flowers. My initial thoughts while photographing this scene was that I would create an oil paint effect, however when I took the image into Topaz Impression I decided to use ...

This image is an in-camera blur created in the Palouse. I used a slow shutter speed and low ISO to capture this dijon mustard field. This is one of my favorites from the day but I have to admit I had quite a few keepers that day :). Canon EOS 5D Mark III Shutter speed: 1/6 sec ...

While photographing at Steptoe Butte in the very early morning, it is fun to capture images that show the multiple layers of the distant hills. Most photographers don't like to get to Steptoe in the pre-dawn but I feel that it is a magical time. I often change the White Balance by setting the ...

For this post I started off with an infrared capture, I used the image shown directly above as my base image. First, I needed to make adjustments to the base image, I added some canvas top and left and tweaked the color tones a bit. Then I started to stack my textures on top of the base image.

During my return trip to Charleston this spring I stopped several times at Botany Bay to photograph the “boneyard” of dead trees in the water. Because I was trying to cram so much into my short trip I was not able to get out to this location at my desired time. However on my last visit I hung ...

I receive a lot of emails from folks who want my opinion on whether or not to purchase a new lens. I can never really answer those questions for anyone, however, I think that they are headed in the right direction by asking for feedback from someone they trust before they buy.

To create the image above I started with an infrared capture. I did not convert the image in Breezebrowser and bring the tiff file into Photoshop as I usually do; instead I brought the CR2 into ACR and then into Photoshop without making any adjustments I did this because I wanted to try out a ...

Introduction

I am a full time professional photographer, workshop leader, and artist living in New Jersey. One of my recent (of many) eBooks is Bloomin' Ideas. It features 55 of my evocative flower images that represent my unique way of blending art and nature. I travel extensively presenting slide lectures and seminars and teaching photography and Photoshop. My workshops feature a variety of subjects including: avian, flower, urbex and HDR photography. I was a moderator for Bird Photographers Net in the Out-of-the-Box Forum for 4 years where I worked helping participants improve their images using innovative techniques done either in-camera or during post-processing.

In 2010 and again in 2014 I received a Highly Honored award in the prestigious Windland Smith Rice Nature's Best competition. Also in 2014 one of my images was selected as part of the People's Choice Awards Top 50 Images in the BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition. I have also won several PSA (Photographic Society of America) awards. My images have been published in magazines and books, sold as greeting cards, calendars and most recently featured in a Sierra Club Documentary.
