I am almost home from my wondrous photo-tour to Namibia, South Africa, where I co-led a workshop there with Arthur Morris. Our hosts Wim Van den Heever and Ben Cranke were fantastic; they knew each of the locations intimately and worked tirelessly to get the group on great photo opportunities ...

I photographed the above image with an Olympus OM-D 5 II that had been converted to IR. I used the Olympus 14-150mm lens and hand held the capture at 1/80 sec. I did not crop one pixel as I liked the framing. The vignette is not added, it is a combo of the lens, the light and the branches.

Image © 2016/Denise Ippolito Photography ~ Topaz Impression and Topaz B&W Effects. I am back home in New Jersey after a flight delay leaving Charleston yesterday. I can't tell you how nice it is to be laying in my own bed typing this blog post :) . I need to get up and start packing for Namibia.

There are many ways to go about adding a texture to an image, however there are a few tweaks that can be made along the way. For me, I like to see some kind of sharpness in my textured images. The out-of-focus overly “fogged out looking” textured images don't do it for me.

Image © 2016/Denise Ippolito Photography. For all of the above images I used a Pocket Wizard Radio Trigger to trip my flash. Why? Because I placed my flash approximately 40 feet to the right of where I was set up with my camera and lens. It is a great way to shoot an animal coming to a watering ...

I've wanted to visit Kolmanskop ghost town in Namibia for years. I have always loved the images that I have seen from there and really had high hopes for what I would discover. I was not disappointed at all. In fact I was blown away by the amount of structures that were in this ghost town.

I went to the ruins of the Old Sheldon Church in South Carolina on Easter Sunday. I'm in Charleston for two back to back workshops and my first group gets here in a couple of days. I wanted to check out some of the places that I might take the group to make sure that all of the roads are clear ...

After I processed the original Nasturtium image (see below) I felt that some of the petals looked “blotchy”. I wanted to soften them up and create a piece of art from my photo so I added a slight bit of Photoshop's Zoom Blur Filter to the image.

Introduction

I am a full time professional photographer, workshop leader, and artist living in New Jersey. One of my recent (of many) eBooks is Bloomin' Ideas. It features 55 of my evocative flower images that represent my unique way of blending art and nature. I travel extensively presenting slide lectures and seminars and teaching photography and Photoshop. My workshops feature a variety of subjects including: avian, flower, urbex and HDR photography. I was a moderator for Bird Photographers Net in the Out-of-the-Box Forum for 4 years where I worked helping participants improve their images using innovative techniques done either in-camera or during post-processing.

In 2010 and again in 2014 I received a Highly Honored award in the prestigious Windland Smith Rice Nature's Best competition. Also in 2014 one of my images was selected as part of the People's Choice Awards Top 50 Images in the BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year Competition. In 2015 I won the Art in Nature Category in the Windland Smith Rice Nature's Best competition.  I have also won several PSA (Photographic Society of America) awards. My images have been published in magazines and books, sold as greeting cards, calendars and most recently featured in a Sierra Club Documentary.
