Coaches take months or years to fully evaluate a recruit. However, it can take a coach only 30 seconds to decide not to recruit you.

Don't expect a scholarship offer right away, be prepared to get to know the coaches and learn about their program.

You will know you are being recruited once you are receiving personalized letters, emails or phone calls from college coaches. Most of the time if you are unsure if you are being recruited, that means you are not.

The NCAA receives 180,000 athletes transcripts each year. They only process roughly 70,000. They prioritize athletes the following way
1) Who has all of their information in first
2) Who has been requested by a university
3) Fall, Winter then Spring sports

Over 180,000 athletes register with the NCAA every year and many of them do so because they think it is something that will get them recruited. The NCAA Eligibility Center is designed for universities to get the eligibility status of the athletes they are ALREADY recruiting.

It is not used by coaches to find athletes.

Institutional Request Lists or an "IRL" are used by universities to tell the NCAA what athletes they are recruiting. You do not get cleared by just registering with the NCAA and sent in all of your document. You have to be getting recruited by a college coach and have them request your final eligibility from the NCAA.
