i am one that is hard to please, so please take heed on my review of 5 stars. i am a frequent visitor to the germantown cafe for both brunch and dinner. there are few restaurants in town in which i find 100% consistency in terms of food quality, service and atmosphere. this quaint establishment has yet to yield a flaw. if you want a place guaranteed to impress, enjoy or expose anyone to a totally delightful meal, i suggest you try the germantown cafe.

The brunch at this place and the quality of the food is pretty fantastic, but the quality of the service has dropped down in the last months considerably. Me and 2 other friends of mine have been quite disappointed at a few things in our 2 last visits. One of the managers really seem to have little clue about how to properly make you feel comfortable, and did some inappropriate comments about the food and how it was prepared. He wasn't explicitly rude, and in fact he was trying to be nice, but it really didn't come out like that. Some serious lack of professionalism we weren't expecting at this place.

I try to come here for brunch every time I'm in Nashville. I love how they bring you donut holes instead of a bread basket, and their french toast is so fluffy and delicious. I also recommend the crab cakes benedict if you're a little bit hungrier. Make a reservation if you're headed there on the weekend, especially for brunch, because it can get packed.

While we love GC for dinner, lunch was underwhelming. Many items sounded good, but I had to have a Rueben. For $9+ sandwich, would have expected more...of about everything. Not to worry NY, you're safe. Chix salad was also average. Injured host was terse and uninterested.

The food was awesome. The French Onion soup had a huge layer of Gouda cheese melted on the top and had onions and Parmesan croutons resting underneath. Delightful soup. We tried the Brie-L-T (Brie cheese, bacon, lettuce, and fried green tomatoes) and the Bourbon Chicken sandwich. The cranberry mayo sauce on the bourbon chicken was delicious. Basically, everything we tried from the menu was great. Fries looked fresh cut even! Thick and salty! Try the jalapeño tartar sauce. So great! The service was attentive. Cool atmosphere in the cafe and it is a good part of Nashville (Germantown) that isn't full of tourists and busyness. Wish we could go back tomorrow and try everything else on the menu! Macy (our waitress) was super helpful telling us about the area. Highly recommend. Seriously, go tomorrow.

We walked into Germantown Cafe on a Sunday morning for brunch and found the restaurant to be semi empty. There were 3 of us there and we had a party of 5 but were told by the hostess " you can not be seated unless your party is almost here or is all here" at which point we told her they were just a few minutes behind us and she told us we could sit and wait upfront until our whole party was here. At which point we were never offered drinks or an explanation as to why you have to wait for a table at an almost empty restaurant. We decided to leave for Madonnas where we gladly waited for 15 minutes for a table with a happy hostess, happy bartender and excellent food and environment. We will be sure to cross Germantown Cafe off our list along with letting our friends know as well. We understand if the restaurant is full to keep to this policy, but on an empty Sunday, why not go ahead and sit and offer beverages?
